RHP Frankie Montas had a chance to escape out of a based loaded jam with two outs in the bottom of the first, but was unable to do so after he gave up a two-run single to 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes.
It only got worse for Montas in the inning after he then gave up back-to-back homers to CF Oneil Cruz and LF Tommy Pham.
Montas gave up another run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by DH Andrew McCutchen.
Montas was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth and came back after the fourth.
His final line was four innings, seven hits, six runs, one walk and five strikeouts.
LHP Richard Lovelady came in next in the bottom of the fifth and gave up a solo homer to RF Bryan Reynolds and later in the inning, a RBI single to Pham.
Lovelady stayed in for the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning.
RHP Dedniel Nunez followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a two-run homer to Cruz.
OF Travis Jankowski came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up two singles and a hit by pitch to load the bases and then gave up two runs before getting a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.
The Met offense did not do much outside of a solo homer by catcher Luis Torrens in the top of the fifth.
The top four hitters in the lineup SS Francisco Lindor, LF Brandon Nimmo, RF Juan Soto and 1B Pete Alonso combined to go 2-15 with four strikeouts.
The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, July 1 at home at Citi Field against the Milwaukee Brewers at 7:15 p.m.
