Mets Beat Dodgers 6-1 Powered By Two Homers From Alonso and Stellar Outing From Canning

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 tonight at Dodger Stadium and improved their record to 39-23.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a hit by pitch and then LF Brandon Nimmo reached on an error by 2B Enrique Hernandez.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor and Nimmo with a three-run homer to right center.

The offense was held scoreless for the next seven innings until the top of the eighth after Nimmo led off with a hit by pitch, RF Juan Soto walked and then Alonso broke the game open with another three-run homer.

RHP Griffin Canning had a stellar outing with six scoreless innings.

Canning gave up three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.

He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 2.90.

LHP Jose Castillo followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth.

RHP Ryne Stanek gave up a solo homer to CF Andy Pages in the bottom of the ninth, but was able to get the last three outs.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, June 5 at the Dodgers at 4:10 p.m.
