RHP Paul Blackburn got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to RF Ronald Acuna Jr on his first pitch.
Blackburn gave up a single to the following hitter LF Alex Verdugo and then walked 3B Austin Riley.
After retiring 1B Matt Olson on a ground-out to first, catcher Luis Torrens made a costly error after he touched the ball with his mask to allow Verdugo to score.
Later in the inning, Blackburn gave up a sacrifice fly to DH Marcell Ozuna.
Blackburn was able to settle down after that working around a lead-off triple in the bottom of the second and had a 1--2-3 bottom of the third.
Butto gave up a one-out double to 2B Ozzie Albies in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out with 73 pitches.
RHP Jose Butto followed and gave up a run on a wild pitch on a play that should have been caught by Torrens and looked like a passed ball.
Butto stayed in for the bottom of the fifth and threw a scoreless inning.
LHP Jose Castillo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Ty Adcock followed in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a solo homer to Olson.
RHP Justin Garza threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
The Met offense was stymied by LHP Chris Sale who threw 8.2 scoreless innings allowing five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, June 19 at the Braves at 7:15 p.m,
