Mets Lose To Pirates 9-2 After Bullpen Falls Apart in Eighth Inning

The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-2 tonight at PNC Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 48-36.

RHP Paul Blackburn started out with a scoreless bottom of the first, but after a 89-minute rain delay, came back for the bottom of the second and lost all his momentum.

Blackburn gave up five straight singles before leaving the game with the based loaded.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and gave up a sacrifice fly, but was able to settle down after that retiring the next three hitters he faced.

LHP Brandon Waddell followed and did an outstanding job with three scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the eighth and had another difficult outing with two hits and two walks before leaving with the based loaded.

RHP Collin Poche followed in his season debut and had a rough time allowing all three inherited runs to score and then two more runs.

In the top of the first, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and two batters later, RF Juan Soto drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the top of the second, third and fourth, 1B Pete Alonso doubled with one out in the top of the fifth and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a RBI single.

The Met offense was unable to score any more runs after that and their struggles with runners in scoring position continued after the went 2-8 with RISP and left nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, June 29 at the Pirates at 1:35 p.m.
