The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2 tonight at Coors Field and improved their record to 40-24.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first six innings leaving five runners on base in the first three innings and then wasted a based loaded no out opportunity in the top of the sixth after 3B Brett Baty, catcher Francisco Lindor and SS Ronny Mauricio struck out.

However, they came alive in the top of the seventh after DH Starling Marte and RF Juan Soto singled with one out, and then 1B Pete Alonso continued his torrid start to the season with a two-run double and were 0-8 with runners in scoring position prior to the hit.

In the top of the eighth, they squandered another scoring opportunity after Mauricio doubled with two outs, but then LF Brandon Nimmo struck out to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Soto singled with one out and Alonso followed with a walk and then two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor came up as a pinch hitter with a fractured pinky toe and delivered the game-winning two-run double down the right field line.

RHP Kodai Senga cruised through the first two innings and then gave up a solo homer to RF Mickey Moniak in the bottom of the third.

Senga gave up a lead-off triple to SS Ryan Ritter in the bottom of the fifth and after a strikeout, Moniak hit a grounder to Alonso who made a perfect throw homer to catcher Francisco Alvarez who tagged Ritter out after he running on contact.

Senga had a scoreless bottom of the sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, five hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts on a career-high 109 pitches.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a one-out triple to RF Sam Hillard and then a RBI single to Moniak, but Soto threw out Moniak after he tried to stretch his single into a double.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next in the bottom of the eighth and got into trouble after he gave up a lead-off single to LF Jordan Beck and then a double to 2B Thairo Estrada.

Stanek then gave up a walk to load the bases, but was helped out by his defense after 3B Brett Baty caught a line-out by 3B Ryan McMahon and tagged Beck before he could go back to third for the unassisted double play. Stanek followed that up by striking out CF Brenton Doyle to end the inning and picked up his second win.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to pick up his 14th save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, June 7 at the Rockies at 9:40 p.m.
