LHP David Peterson cruised through the first three innings, but then it all unraveled in the bottom of the fourth.
Peterson gave up a lead-off homer to DH Kyle Schwarber and two batters later, a double to RF Nick Castellanos.
Peterson then walked catcher J.T. Realmuto and gave up a RBI single to LF Otto Kemp.
Peterson gave up a bases clearing double to the following hitter 2B Edmundo Sosa and was taken out after the inning.
Peterson's final line was four innings, six hits, five runs, three walks and two strikeouts.
It was the most earned runs he has allowed this season to increase his ERA from 2.60 to 2.98 and it also snapped his streak of three consecutive starts with at seven innings.
RHP Chris Devenski followed with a scoreless bottom of the fifth.
RHP Dedneil Nunez came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.
RHP Tyler Zuber gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by 3B Alec Bohm and a RBI double by Castellanos.
Zuber stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.
The Met offense wasted a scoring opportunity in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. However, Lindor was unable to score after DH Starling Marte struck out, RF Juan Soto flew out to right and 1B Pete Alonso struck out to end the inning.
The only run they were able to score was on a solo homer by Lindor in the top of the eighth. It was the first time in their last 29 games that the Mets have lost a game where Lindor homered.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, June 23 back at home at Citi Field against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 p.m.
