The Met offense got on the board immediately in the bottom of the first after LF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out. Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Nimmo with a RBI double for his league-best 63th RBI and 20th this month as well as his 39th extra-base hit.
After a scoreless bottom of the second, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with one out in the bottom of the third and two batters later, RF Juan Soto hit a two-run homer to right-center to extend his on-base streak to 13 games and raised his OPS to .854. Soto has also hit five homers in his last 11 games.
In the bottom of the fifth, Nimmo led off with a homer.
In the bottom of the seventh, Nimmo once again led off with a homer.
LHP David Peterson had a spectacular outing with a complete-game shutout.
He gave up six walks and no walks with six strikeouts throwing 106 pitches.
Peterson was in complete control all night and had excellent command of his slider and change-up.
He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 2.49.
It is the first complete-game shutout by a Met lefty since Steven Matz in 2019.
