The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 this afternoon at Dodger Stadium to split their four-game series and dropped their record to 39-24.

LHP David Peterson started out well with two scoreless innings, but then ran into trouble in the bottom of the third.

Peterson walked 3B Miguel Rojas with one out and then gave up a single to DH Shohei Ohtani.

Peterson gave up a RBI double to the following hitter SS Mookie Betts and then a RBI single to catcher Will Smith.

Peterson gave up a RBI ground-out to RF Teoscar Hernandez before finally getting out of the inning with the lead.

Peterson was able to settle down after that and finished up strong with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh.

His final line was seven innings, seven hits, three runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett came in next in the bottom of the eighth and got into immediate trouble after he walked Betts to lead-off the inning and then gave up a RBI double to Smith.

Two batters later, Garrett was let down his defense after 3B Brett Baty made a costly throwing error to home plate which allowed the tying run to score.

Later in the inning, Garrett gave up the game-winning single to former Met Michael Conforto.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso continued his hot start to the season with a solo homer in the top of the second.

In the top of the third, LF Brandon Nimmo and DH Starling Marte hit back-to-back homers,

Later in the inning, Alonso was hit by a pitch and 2B Jeff McNeil walked.

CF Tyrone Taylor then singled to load the bases and Baty drove in Alonso with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the eighth, Marte doubled with two outs and then RF Juan Soto was intentionally walked.

Alonso then drove in a run with a RBI single, but McNeil grounded out to second to end the inning.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base and was unable to come through with a timely hit to break the game open.

They went 2-10 with runners in scoring position leaving 13 runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, June 6 at the Colorado Rockies at 8:40 p.m.
