The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 8-7 this afternoon at Citi Field for their first series loss of the year and dropped their record to 23-13.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out with two scoreless innings and in the top of the third, he gave up a lead-off double to 3B Abraham Toro and then a single to RF Steven Sousa Jr.

Carrasco then got catcher Cal Raleigh to ground into a double play, but a run scored.

Carrasco ran into more trouble in the top of the fourth giving up singles to SS J.P Crawford and LF Jesse Winker and then walked CF Julio Rodriguez which loaded the bases.

Carrasco then gave up a two-run single to DH Mike Ford and a RBI single to Toro.

Carrasco came back out for the top of the fifth and gave up an extra base hit and was then taken out.

His final line was 4.1 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and got the last two outs in the fifth.

Shreve stayed in for the top of the sixth and gave up a lead-off homer to Rodriguez.

Shreve then got Ford to pop out and gave up an infield hit to Toro and was then taken out.

RHP Drew Smith followed and got Souza to pop out, but then gave up a two-run homer to Raleigh.

LHP Joely Rodriguez came in next in the top of the seventh and gave up a one-out ground rule double to Winker and a RBI single to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning.

RHP Colin Holderman made his ML debut in the top of the ninth after he was called up from Triple-A Syracuse today and threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer with one out.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, 1B Pete Alonso singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and LF Mark Canha followed with a walk.

DH J.D. Davis then hit a two-run triple and 3B Eduardo Escobar walked.

Three batters later, CF Brandon Nimmo came through with a two-run triple.

The bats did not do much for the next four innings, but came alive in the bottom of the ninth after Escobar tripled with one out and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI single.

Catcher Patrick Mazeika then singled and Nimmo followed with a RBI double.

RF Starling Marte came up next and struck out, but then Lindor was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs.

Alonso came up with a chance to win the game, but struck out on a check swing on a slider out of the zone after also chasing a bad slider earlier in the at-bat.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday May 16th at home against the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:10 p.m.
