Mets Beat Rockies 5-1 in First Game of Doubleheader Behind Starling Marte and Carlos Carrasco

 The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 this afternoon at Coors Feld in the first game of a doubleheader and improved their record to 27-14.

The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after CF Brandon Nimmo hit a lead-off single and RF Starling Marte followed with a two-run homer.

In the next inning, 1B Dom Smith led off and reached first on an error by SS Julio Iglesias and 2B Luis Guillorme followed with a single.

Catcher Patrick Mazieka then came up and delivered a two-run double.

The bats were held scoreless in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings, but came alive once again in the top of the sixth.

Guillorme led off the inning and reached on an infield single and after Mazeika grounded out and Nimmo struck out, Marte singled and then SS Francisco Lindor came through with a RBI single.

RHP Carlos Carrasco cruised through the first five innings, but into trouble in the bottom of the sixth after he gave up a double to 1B C.J. Croin and two batters later a single to 2B Brendan Rogers and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and after getting an out, he gave up a infield single to Iglesias which brought home a run.

Ottavino then retired catcher Elias Diaz to end the inning.

Carrasco's final line was 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. His command was outstanding once again with his fastball, change-up and slider.

He picked up his fourth win and lowered his ERA to 3.50.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings.

The Mets next game is tonight at the Rockies at 8:40 p.m. in the second game of the doubleheader.
