The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 9-3 this afternoon at Oracle Park to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 29-17.

LHP Thomas Szapucki made his first ML start and got into immediate trouble in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out double to 1B Wilmer Flores and then walked the next inning RF Mike Yastremski and then gave up a three-run homer to 3B Evan Longoria.

Szapucki then walked 2B Thairo Estrada and gave up a two-run homer to the following hitter LF Joc Pederson.

Szapucki's struggles continued in the bottom of the second after he gave up a lead-off to SS Donovan Walton and two batters later a RBI double to Flores.

Szapucki then gave up a two-run homer to Yastremski and a solo homer to Longaria and was then taken out.

His final line was 1.1 innings, 7 hits, 9 runs, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

RHP Trevor Williams followed with 3.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Colin Holderman then threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

LHP Chasen Shreve threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Seth Lugo threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

After scoreless innings in the top of the first and second, 1B Dom Smith walked to lead off the top of the third, and two batters later catcher Patrick Mazeika singled and then CF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI ground-out.

The offense did not do much for the next two innings and then SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth.

After a scoreless top of the seventh, Nimmo tripled to lead off the top of the eighth and then RF Starling Marte hit a RBI ground-out.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action on Friday, May 27th back at home at Citi Field against the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m.
