The New York Mets beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4 tonight at Citi Field after a rain delay that lasted a little over an hour and improved their record to 23-12.

The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after RF Starling Marte tripled with one out and then SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI single.

After a scoreless bottom of the second,  CF Brandon Nimmo reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the third and then Marte followed with a double.

Lindor then hit a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the game and after 1B Pete Alonso walked, 2B Jeff McNeil hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Marte.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nimmo led off with a single and three batters later, Alonso drove in Nimmo with an RBI double.

In the bottom of the seventh, catcher Patrick Mazeika led off and delivered a game-winning homer.

RHP Chris Bassitt worked out of a based loaded jam in the top of the first and then settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

Bassitt did not have his best stuff tonight and had trouble establishing a rhythm with Mazieka behind the plate and struggled working with him on pitch selection.

Despite that, Bassitt had five scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after he hit 3b Eugenio Suarez and then gave up a single to LF Jesse Winker.

Bassitt came back to strike out the next two hitters he faced, but then gave up a RBI single to RF Steven Souza Jr and was then taken out.

His final line was 5.2 innings, 5 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.

RHP Seth Lugo came in next and walked catcher Luis Torres, but was able to get out of the inning after he retired 2B Adam Frazier on a fly out to right to end the inning.

Lugo stayed in for the top of the seventh and gave up one-out singles to SS J.P Crawford and Suarez and was then taken out.

LHP Chasen Shreve came in next and immediately gave up a three-run homer to Winker, but managed finish the inning and keep the game tied.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth and picked up his second win.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the ninth and had a dominating performance against his former team striking out the side and picked up his eighth save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday May 15th at home against the Mariners at 1:40 p.m.
