New York Mets RHP Max Scherzer removed himself from his start in tonight's game against the St. Louis Cardinals after throwing a slider on a 1-1 count to Albert Pujois with two outs in the top of the sixth inning with what the team is calling left side discomfort.

Scherzer signaled to the Mets bench that he was done for the night after throwing the pitch and manager Buck Showalter, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and a trainer came out to the dugout to check on him.

Scherzer walked off the field after a brief discussion.

He will have imaging done tomorrow, but Scherzer did not seem too concerned that it was a major strain.
