Mets Lose To Giants 13-12 After Rally Comes Up Short and Edwin Diaz Blows Save

 The New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 13-12 tonight at Oracle Park and dropped their record to 29-16.

RHP Chris Bassitt had another rough outing against the Giants allowing eight runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings.

RHP Stephen Nogosek followed with 2.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Drew Smith retired the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the eight, but then gave up a single and walk and a three-run homer to LF Joc Pederson.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off single to pinch-hitter Wilmer Flores and after getting DH Tommy  La Stellla to ground into a double play, Diaz walked CF Mike Yaztremski and then gave up a single to 1B Darin Ruf.

Diaz then gave up a game-tying RBI single to Peterson and a walk-off single to the following hitter SS Brandon Crawford.

In the top of the second, 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a double and 3B Eduardo Escobar followed with a single and LF Mark Canha then hit a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, in the top of the fifth catcher Tomas Nido led off with a single and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a hit but pitch.

Two batters later SS Francisco Lindor hit a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the seventh, RF Marte reached on an infield hit and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the eighth, McNeil led off with a single and Escobar followed with a single.

Cano then reached on an infield single to load the bases and DH Dom Smith followed with a two-run single.

Two batters later Nimmo reached on an infield hit and then Marte reached on an infield hit which brought home a run.

Lindor followed with a three-run triple.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a sacrifice fly.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Giants at 3:45 p.m.
