Mets Beat Rockies 2-0 Led By a Stellar Outing By Taijuan Walker

The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 2-0 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 28-15.

The offense did not much for the first five innings against LHP Austin Gomber, but came alive in the top of the sixth after CF Brandon Nimmo singled with one out and then advanced to third after RF Randall Grichuk made an error.

SS Francisco Lindor followed with a single and the next hitter 2B Jeff McNeil doubled.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a RBI ground-out to bring in the second run of the inning.

RHP Taijuan Walker had another outstanding start with seven scoreless innings for the second time in his last three starts allowing five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Walker worked out of several jams using pinpoint control and had command of his fastball and slider.

He picked up his second win and lowered his ERA to 2.70.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next in the bottom of the eighth and walked two out of the first three hitters he faced before recovering to strike out DH C.J. Cron and was then taken out.

LHP Joely Rodriguez followed and retired 3B Ryan McMahon on a fly-out to end the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on the in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a one-out single to 2B Brendan Rodgers, but came back to strike out SS Jose Iglesias for the second out and retired catcher Brian Server on a fly-out to end the game and picked up his 10th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday May 23th at the San Francisco Giants at 9:45 p,m.
