RHP Jacob deGrom

The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 4-3 this afternoon to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 69-80. RHP Jacob deGrom dominated through the first two innings and struck out 6 out of the first 7 batters he faced, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third inning. deGrom gave singles to 3B Rafael Dever and catcher Christian Vasquez and a two-run homer to SS Brock Holt. He settled down after that and worked around a lead-off walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. deGrom cruised in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings,. He gave up a single to CF Jackie Bradley Jr. with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but struck out Devers and got Vasquez to fly out to end the inning. His final line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 3 earned run, BB, and 12 strikeouts. deGrom reached the 250 strikeout mark for the second consecutive year and is the third Met pitcher to reach that milestone along with Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden. His ERA went from 1.71 to 1.89. RHP Seth Lugo came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by LF Andrew Benitendi.
The offense was shut down by Red Sox starter LHP Chris Sale and was held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. CF Austin Jackson and SS Amed Rosario followed with a double. 1B Wilmer Floes drove in Jackson with a sacrifice fly and LF Michael Conforto drove in Rosario with an RBI double. In the top of the seventh inning, DH Jay Bruce walked to lead off the inning and RF Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch. SS Amed Rosario hit a RBI single with two outs to tie the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Phillies in Philadelphia at 7:10 P.M.
