Mets vs. Giants Game 135 Recap

LHP Steven Matz

The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-1 in 11 innings this afternoon and improved their record to 60-75. The offense  started off slow and was held scoreless for the first four innings. In the top of the fifth inning, RF Brandon Nimmo walked and catcher Tomas Nido hit an RBI double. They didn't score again until the top of the eleventh inning after 2B Wilmer Flores doubled, 1B Jay Bruce grounded out which moved Flores to third base and 3B Todd Frazier drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

LHP Steven Matz cruised through the first three innings, but gave up a solo homer to 3B Evan Longaria in the bottom of the fourth inning. Matz finished up strong with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. His final line was one run on three hits with eleven strikeouts and one walk in seven innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth. LHP Jerry Blevins followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the tenth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the eleventh inning and picked up his ninth save.
