Mets vs. Dodgers Game 137 Recap

RHP Jacob deGrom


The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 tonight and improved their record to 62-75. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the top of the fifth inning after RF Jay Bruce singled, catcher Devin Mesoraco walked and RHP Jacob deGrom drove in Bruce with an RBI single. The bats were silent for the next three innings, but woke up in the top of the ninth. RF Jay Bruce led off with a double, catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a sacrifice bunt, 2B Jeff McNeil was hit a pitch, and pinch-hitter Brandon Nimmo hit a three-run homer.

RHP Jacob deGrom gave up a solo homer to 3B Justin Turner in the bottom of the first inning, but settled down after that. deGrom had 1-2-3 bottom of the second inning, and worked around a lead-off walk to RF Yasiel Puig in the bottom of the third inning. He had another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth and left Puig on base in the bottom of the fifth after he reached on an error. deGrom finished up strong with 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth inning with two strikeouts. His final line was one run on two hits with six strikeouts and a walk in six innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Smith followed and had a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman ran into some trouble in the bottom of the ninth after he gave up a lead-off single to RF Alex Verdugo, double to RF Cody Bellinger and a sacrifice fly to catcher Yasmani Grandal, but was able to close it out and picked up his 10th save.

The Mets game is at 10:10 tomorrow night against the Dodgers.
