Mets vs. Nationals Game 154 Recap

RHP Jacob deGrom


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 4-2 tonight and improved their record to 72-82. SS Amed Rosario led off the top of the first inning with a double and came around to score on an RBI single by RF Jay Bruce. In the top of the third inning, LF Michael Conforto doubled and scored on an RBI double by Bruce. Two batters later, 1B Dominic Smith hit an RBI single. 3B Todd Frazier then reached on an error and catcher Devin Mesoraco drove in Smith with an RBI double.

RHP Jacob deGrom had another dominating performance allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings. deGrom picked up his ninth win and his record improved to 9-9 on the season. His ERA dropped to 1.77 and he stayed in fifth place on the Mets single-season strikeout record with 259. This was his 23th consecutive quality start, which sets a new MLB single-season record and 28th consecutive start allowing fewer than three runs, which he set earlier this year. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a RBI single by 2B Anthony Rendon, but still was able to close it out and pick up his 12th save on the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Nationals at 4:05 P.M.
