Mets vs. Phillies Game 142 Recap

LF Michael Conforto


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 65-77. SS Amed Rosario led off the bottom of the first with a triple and later scored on an infield hit by LF Michael Conforto. The bats were held quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning after 2B Jeff McNeil drove home pinch-hitter Dominic Smith on an RBI single. Conforto followed with a three-run homer. In the bottom of the seventh inning, RF Brandon Nimmo walked and scored on an RBI double by CF Austin Jackson.

RHP Corey Oswalt made the start in place of RHP Jacob deGrom, who was scratched due to rain. deGrom will start tomorrow's game instead. Oswalt gave up a two-run homer to LF Rhys Hoskins in the top of the first inning. Oswalt settled down with scoreless innings in the top of the second and third innings. His final line was two runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts in three innings. RHP Drew Gagnon came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Gagnon picked up his fifth win. RHP Eric Hanhold followed and was taken out after one batter in the top of the sixth inning. RHP Drew Smith threw two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning and retired the first two hitters in the top of the ninth inning, but gave up a solo homer to 1B Carlos Santana with two outs, but still picked up his second save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night against the Miami Marlins at 7:10 P.M.
