Tonight. the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 13-0 and improved their record to 66-78. The offense got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after 3B Jose Reyes hit a RBI double and catcher Tomas Nido reached on an error which brought home a run. 2B Jeff McNeil later hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the second. SS Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. RF Jay Bruce hit a grand slam in the bottom in the sixth/ 1B Dominic Smith added a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
RHP Zack Wheeler had another outstanding start of 8 innings, 0 runs, 4 hits, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. Wheeler's curveball was as good as ever, in addition to his fastball, change-up and slider. He improved his record to 11-7 with 3.20 ERA. RHP Paul Sewald closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The Mets have a double-header tomorrow after a 5-hour 45 minute rain delay tonight and the first game begins at 3:10 and Game 2 starts 20 minutes after the end of the first game.
