Mets vs. Marlins Game 146 Recap

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-2 tonight to sweep their day-night double-header and improved their record to 68-78. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth inning after catcher Tomas Nido hit a solo homer and LHP Jason Vargas and SS Amed Rosario followed with singles. 2B Jeff McNeil grounded into a force out and LF Michael Conforto drove in Vargas and McNeil with a two-run double. In the bottom of the seventh, Rosario and McNeil both singled and Conforto brought in Rosario with an RBI single 1B Dominic Smith drove in Conforto with a RBI ground-out.

LHP Jason Vargas had a solid start allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings. Vargas picked up his seventh win. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and had a dominating performance. Lugo struck out the side in the top of the seventh and struck out first two batters in the top of the eighth and then 1B Peter O'Brien to fly out to end the inning. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his 11th save on the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night at the Boston Red Sox at 7:10 P.M.
