The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 tonight and dropped their record to 63-77. LHP Steven Matz had scoreless innings in the top of the first and second innings, but gave 2 runs in the top of the third inning on a two-run homer by 1B Carlos Santana. Matz settled down after that with scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. His final line was five innings, three hits, two runs, two walks and eight strikeouts. RHP Eric Hanhold came in next and gave up a RBI double to 3B Asdrubal Cabrera. RHP Tyler Bashlor gave up a solo homer to LF Rhys Hoskins in the top of the eighth inning.
RF Jay Bruce drove home the first run of the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. 1B Dom Smith added a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Mets next game is at 7:10 P.M. tomorrow night against the Phillies.
