Mets vs. Giants Game 134 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler


Tonight, the New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 7-0 and dropped their record to 59-75. RHP Zack Wheeler had another terrific start allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Wheeler gave up no walks and lowered his ERA to 3.37 and had his first no-walk start since May 22th. The only run he was gave up was a sacrifice fly by LF Chris Shaw in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to rookie catcher Aramis Garcia and then allowed a double to LF Gregor Blanco before being taken out. LHP Daniel Zamora followed and struck out his first two batters, walked 3B Evan Longaria intentionally and then gave up a two-run triple to 1B Brandon Belt. RHP Drew Smith appeared next and gave up RBI singles to RF Austin Slater, CF Gorkys Hernandez, and Aramis Garcia.

The offense struggled against Giants starter LHP Andrew Suarez and had  three hits.They allowed Suarez to retire 17 hitters in a row at one point. They went 0-6 with runners in scoring position in their fourth shutout in last seven games.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Giants at 4:05 P.M.
