The New York Mets lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 tonight and dropped their record to 70-81/ LHP Steven Matz had a decent start with five scoreless innings allowing no earned runs with four strikeouts and five walks. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next in the bottom of the sixth and gave up two earned runs after he walked the lead-off hitter and hit the next batter. RHP Drew Smith followed and gave up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Anthony Swarsak had to come in to get the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Tyler Bashlor threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.
LHP Steven Matz drove in the first run of the game after he hit a solo homer in the top of the third inning for his second homer of the season. Matz is the third Met pitcher to homer in back-to-back starts and first since Ron Darling in 1989. 1B Dominic Smith hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning, which scored RF Brandon Nimmo.
The Mets next game is at 6:05 tomorrow night against the Phillies in the series finale.
