The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 1-0 this afternoon in the final game of the season and improved their record to 77-85. RHP Noah Syndergard had a dominating performance throwing a complete-game shutout. His final line was 9 innings, 5 hits, 0 walks and 6 strikeouts and threw slightly over 100 pitches. Syndergarrd ended up with a  13-4 record and a 3.03 ERA. He had a strong September and looked like his old self, which is a great confidence booster going into next year.

The offense didn't do much against Marlins starter RHP Sandy Alcantara. 3B Todd Frazier drove in 2B Jeff McNeil on an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning for the only run of the game

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 1-0 tonight in 13 innings and improved their record to 76-85. 3B David Wright made his first start since May 27, 2016 alongside SS Jose Reyes. It was emotional seeing the two together again since they have made the most starts together for any two players in Met history at 878 starts. Wright made two appearances and walked in the bottom of the first inning and popped out in the bottom of the fourth inning.  He was taken out in the top of the fifth inning after coming out to third base and then made his way to the dugout and received a standing oviation from the sell-out crowd. After the game, Wright addressed the fans and thanked them for all their support.
LHP Steven Matz threw six scoreless innings with no earned runs. RHP Tyler Bashor threw a scoreless top of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. RHP Anthony Swarsak threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins threw a scoreless top of the tenth inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eleventh and twelfth innings. LHP Daniel Zamora threw a scoreless top of the thirteenth inning and picked up his first win.

CF Austin Jackson drove in the only run of the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the 13th inning.

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 8-1 tonight and dropped their record to 75-85. RHP Corey Oswalt gave up one run on three hits with three walks in four innings. RHP Paul Sewald came in next in the top of the fifth inning and gave up two runs on RBI doubles by 1B Peter O'Brien and CF Lewis Brinson. RHP Drew Gagnon gave up four unearned runs (one earned) in 1.2 innings on five hits, one walk and three strikeouts. RHP Jacob Rhyme gave up an unearned run in the top of the seventh. RHP Tim Peterson threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth innings.

SS Amed Rosario drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. 3B David Wright made his return tonight as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning and grounded out to third base. This was Wright's first at-bat in a Major League game since May 27, 2016. The offense went 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-1 tonight to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 75-84. LHP Jason Vargas finished off his 2018 season on a high note after he threw seven scoreless innings allowing three hits and striking out six. Vargas lowered his ERA from 6.25 to a season low 5.7. He also ended up with a 3.81 ERA in the second half after an 8.60 ERA in the first half. Vargas picked up his seventh win of the season. RHP Anthony Swarsak came in next in the top of the eighth inning and gave up a lead-off single and walk and was then taken out. LHP Daniel Zamora followed and struck out his only batter of the night. RHP Drew Smith appeared next and gave up an RBI single, but was able to finish out the top of the eighth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his seventh save.

The offense didn't do much against Braves starter RHP Julio Tehran, but broke through in the bottom of the third inning after catcher Kevin Plawecki hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. Pinch-hitter Devin Mesoraco broke the game open with a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-0 tonight and improved their record to 74-84. RHP Jacob deGrom capped off his incredible season with a dominating performance. deGrom gave up a lead-off hit to LF Ronald Acuna Jr in the top of the first inning and a single in the top of the second inning, but settled down after that and cruised the rest of way. At one point, he retired 20 hitters in a row. His final line was 8 innings, 2 hits, 0 walks, and 10 k's. deGrom lowered his ERA after the top of the eighth inning. He deserves to win the Cy Young. He has been the best pitcher in the National League all season long. RHP Seth Lugo closed it out with a 1-2 -3 top of the ninth inning and picked his third save.

The offense was held scoreless for the first five innings until LF Michael Conforto doubled and scored on an RBI single by 1B Dominc Smith. Conforto and Smith hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the eighth.

Last night, the New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves 7-3 and dropped their record to 73-84. RHP Noah Syndergarrd bounced back from his previous start and threw six scoreless innings. Syndergarrd allowed three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next in the top of the seventh and gave a double to 3B Jorge Camargo and a base hit to catcher Kurt Suzuki which drove in the first run and was then taken out. Gsellman was responsible for runners on first, second and third when he was taken out with one out. RHP Drew Smith followed and gave up a two-run single to LF Ronald Acuna Jr and a walk pitch which brought in another run. Gsellman was charged with allowing four runs in the seventh. LHP Jerry Blevins came in the top of the eighth and gave up three runs on a RBI double by Kurt Suzuki and a two-run homer to 2B Ozzie Albies.

In the bottom of the third inning, 2B Jeff McNeil singled and scored on an RBI double by LF Michael Conforto. 1B  Jay Bruce followed and drove in Conforto with an RBI single. RF Brandon Nimmo walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning, CF Austin Jackson singled and catcher Tomas Nido drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 8-6 this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 73-86. SS Amed Rosario led off the top of the first inning and 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a single. Rosario later scored on a sac fly by RF Jay Bruce. In the top of the fourth inning, 3B Todd Frazier led off with a double and pinch-hitter Jose Reyes and SS Amed Rosario walked to load the bases. McNeil drove in Frazier with a RBI single and LF Michael Conforto broke the game open with a based loaded triple. 1B Dominc Smith doubled to begin the top of the fifth inning and catcher Kevin Plawecki drove him in with a RBI double. SS Amed Rosario drove in Plawecki with a RBI single. RF Jay Bruce doubled to lead off the top of the sixth inning and Frazier and CF Brandon Nimmo walked to load the bases. Bruce later scored on a fielder's choice by Kevin Plawecki.

LHP Steven Matz had two scoreless innings in the bottom of the first and second innings, but struggled in the bottom of the third inning after he gave up an, solo homer to LF Victor Robles, RBI double to RF Bryce Harper, and walked catcher Spencer Kieboom with the based loaded. Matz was taken out after the inning. His final line was 3 innings, 3 runs,  5 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. RHP Drew Gagnon came in  next and threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. Gagnon picked up his first win of the season. RHP Paul Sewald loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. LHP Daniel Zamora had to come in to retire RF Bryce Harper with the last out in the last out of the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning, but gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins followed in the inning and got Harper to fly out. RHP Anthony Swarsak appeared next and walked 2B Anthony Rendon, but struck out 1B Mark Reynolds and retired pinch-hitter Juan Soto to end the inning. Swarsak stayed in for the bottom of the ninth and retired the last three outs and picked up his fourth save on the season.

The Mets have an off day tomorrow and return to action at home on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves at 7:10 P.M.

RHP Tyler Bashlor followed and gave up a RBI double to RF Bryce Harper in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Tim Peterson threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

The offense was lifeless against Nationals starter RHP Austin Voth and had one hit in the top of the fourth inning on a single by LF Michael Conforto.

Two batters later, 1B Dominic Smith hit an RBI single. 3B Todd Frazier then reached on an error and catcher Devin Mesoraco drove in Smith with an RBI double.

RHP Jacob deGrom had another dominating performance allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings. deGrom picked up his ninth win and his record improved to 9-9 on the season. His ERA dropped to 1.77 and he stayed in fifth place on the Mets single-season strikeout record with 259. This was his 23th consecutive quality start, which sets a new MLB single-season record and 28th consecutive start allowing fewer than three runs, which he set earlier this year. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a RBI single by 2B Anthony Rendon, but still was able to close it out and pick up his 12th save on the season.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd gave up a solo homer to solo homer to 1B Rhys Hoskins in the bottom of the first inning and threw scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third innings. Syndergarrd gave up a two-run homer to LF Odubel Herrera in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and gave up a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. RHP Paul Sewald followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Tim Peterson threw two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings with two strikeouts.

The offense was shut down and managed six hits, but had some solid individual performances from SS Amed Rosartio who went 3-4, 2B Jeff McNel who drew two walks and RF Brandon Nimmo who went 1-3. Nice day for the young hitters who will all play a key role in the starting lineup next year along with LF Michael Conforto.

LHP Jerry Blevins came in next in the bottom of the sixth and gave up two earned runs after he walked the lead-off hitter and hit the next batter. RHP Drew Smith followed and gave up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Anthony Swarsak had to come in to get the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth. RHP Tyler Bashlor threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Jacob Rhyme threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

LHP Steven Matz drove in the first run of the game after he hit a solo homer in the top of the third inning for his second homer of the season. Matz is the third Met pitcher to homer in back-to-back starts and first since Ron Darling in 1989. 1B Dominic Smith hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning, which scored RF Brandon Nimmo.

Catcher Tomas Nido hit a lead-off single in the top of the fifth inning and later scored on an sacrifice fly by SS Amed Rosario. LF Michael Conforto broke the game open in the fifth with a two-run single. In the top of the seventh inning, Rosario singled and stole second and scored on an RBI double by Conforto. In the top of the ninth inning, pinch-hitter Jay Bruce walked and Wilmer Flores singled. 2B Jeff McNeil drove in Bruce with an RBI single and Conforto capped off his big night with a three-run homer for a career-high 6 RBI's on the night. He now has 22 RBI's in his last 16 games.

RHP Zack Wheeler cruised through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wheeler gave up a three-run homer to SS J.P Crawford and a sacrifice fly to 2B Cesar Hernandez. He bounced back after that and responded with scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. His final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, 4 runs, three walks, and four strikeouts. RHP Jacob deGrom dominated through the first two innings and struck out 6 out of the first 7 batters he faced, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the third inning. deGrom gave singles to 3B Rafael Dever and catcher Christian Vasquez and a two-run homer to SS Brock Holt. He settled down after that and worked around a lead-off walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. deGrom cruised in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings,. He gave up a single to CF Jackie Bradley Jr. with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but struck out Devers and got Vasquez to fly out to end the inning. His final line was 7 innings, 5 hits, 3 earned run, BB, and 12 strikeouts. deGrom reached the 250 strikeout mark for the second consecutive year and is the third Met pitcher to reach that milestone along with Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden. His ERA went from 1.71 to 1.89. RHP Seth Lugo came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by LF Andrew Benitendi.

The offense was shut down by Red Sox starter LHP Chris Sale and was held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. CF Austin Jackson and SS Amed Rosario followed with a double. 1B Wilmer Floes drove in Jackson with a sacrifice fly and LF Michael Conforto drove in Rosario with an RBI double. The New York Mets lost to the Boston Red Sox 5-3 this afternoon to snap their four-game losing streak and dropped their record to 69-79. RHP Corey Oswalt made a spot start and got into trouble in the bottom of the first inning after he hit CF Mookie Betts and later gave up an RBI single to SS Xander Bogaerts. Oswalt bounced back with a scoreless bottom of the second inning and gave up a single to 1B and 2B Ian Kinsler to pop out before being taken out. LHP Daniel Zamora came in next and stuck out CF Jackie Bradley Jr to end the inning. Zamoro stayed in for the bottom of the fourth inning and struck out the side. RHP Paul Sewald gave up a three-run double to Bradley Jr. in the bottom of the fifth and an RBI double to pinch-hitter Brock Holt. RHP Drew Smith had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the fifth and stayed in for the bottom of the bottom of the sixth and threw a scoreless inning. RHP Drew Gagnon had a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning and got two outs in the bottom of the eighth. RHP Jacob Rhyme struck out DH J.D. Martinez to end the inning.

The offense was held scoreless until the top of the fourth inning after 2B Jeff McNeil led off the inning with a single, 3B Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch and RF Brandon Nimmo hit a three-run homer. They were shut down for the rest of the game and didn't have any more hits.

The offense jumped on the board early in the top of the first inning after LF Michael Conforto doubled and 1B Jay Bruce hit a RBI double. Bruce broke the game open with a three-run homer in the top of the third inning. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning. CF Austin Jackson and SS Amed Rosario hit back-to-back homers in the top of the eighth inning.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd bounced back after a rough start with a dominating performance. Syndergarrd threw seven scoreless innings and allowed three hits and three walks. He had six strikeouts. Syndergarrd picked up his 12th win on the season. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. RHP Tyler Bashlor closed it out with a scoreless botom of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-2 tonight to sweep their day-night double-header and improved their record to 68-78. The offense was held scoreless for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth inning after catcher Tomas Nido hit a solo homer and LHP Jason Vargas and SS Amed Rosario followed with singles. 2B Jeff McNeil grounded into a force out and LF Michael Conforto drove in Vargas and McNeil with a two-run double. In the bottom of the seventh, Rosario and McNeil both singled and Conforto brought in Rosario with an RBI single 1B Dominic Smith drove in Conforto with a RBI ground-out.

LHP Jason Vargas had a solid start allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings. Vargas picked up his seventh win. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and had a dominating performance. Lugo struck out the side in the top of the seventh and struck out first two batters in the top of the eighth and then 1B Peter O'Brien to fly out to end the inning. RHP Robert Gsellman closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his 11th save on the season.

LHP Steven Matz gave up a two-run homer to RF Issac Galloway and another run in the top of the seventh, His final line was three runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings. RHP Drew Smith came in next and got the last two outs in the top  of the seventh. RHP Anthony Swarsak followed and threw a scoreless top of the eighth inning. LHP Jerry Blevins threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning and picked up his third win.

LHP Steven Matz helped out his own cause with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. The offense was held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning after LF Michael Conforto homered to tie the game with two outs and 3B Todd Frazier followed with a walk-off homer.

SS Amed Rosario hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. RF Jay Bruce hit a grand slam in the bottom in the sixth/ 1B Dominic Smith added a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Zack Wheeler had another outstanding start of 8 innings, 0 runs, 4 hits, 0 walks and 7 strikeouts. Wheeler's curveball was as good as ever, in addition to his fastball, change-up and slider. He improved his record to 11-7 with 3.20 ERA.  RHP Paul Sewald closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

RHP Anthony Swarsak came in next in the top of the eighth and gave up a solo homer to SS J.T. Riddle. RHP Robert Gsellman gave up two runs in the top of the ninth inning.

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 65-77. SS Amed Rosario led off the bottom of the first with a triple and later scored on an infield hit by LF Michael Conforto. The bats were held quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning after 2B Jeff McNeil drove home pinch-hitter Dominic Smith on an RBI single. Conforto followed with a three-run homer. In the bottom of the seventh inning, RF Brandon Nimmo walked and scored on an RBI double by CF Austin Jackson.

RHP Corey Oswalt made the start in place of RHP Jacob deGrom, who was scratched due to rain. deGrom will start tomorrow's game instead. Oswalt gave up a two-run homer to LF Rhys Hoskins in the top of the first inning. Oswalt settled down with scoreless innings in the top of the second and third innings. His final line was two runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts in three innings. RHP Drew Gagnon came in next and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Gagnon picked up his fifth win. RHP Eric Hanhold followed and was taken out after one batter in the top of the sixth inning. RHP Drew Smith threw two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and threw a 1-2-3 top of the eighth inning and retired the first two hitters in the top of the ninth inning, but gave up a solo homer to 1B Carlos Santana with two outs, but still picked up his second save.

RHP Noah Syndergarrd didn't have his best stuff and struggled throughout the night. He gave up base-runners in every inning and had to deal with a lot of traffic on the bases. He had five scoreless innings, but gave up two runs in the top of the sixth on a solo homer by LF Rhys Hoskins and an infield hit to 2B Cesar Hernandez and was then taken out. His final line was four runs on 12 hits and five walks and four strikeouts. He picked up his eleventh win. LHP Jerry Blevins came in next and stuck out pinch-hitter Jose Bautista with the based loaded to end the inning. Blevins stayed in for the top of the eighth and recorded two outs and was taken out for RHP Robert Gsellman. Gsellman retired catcher Wilson Ramos for the last out in the eighth inning and gave up a run in the top of the ninth on an sacrifice fly by 2B Cesar Hernandez, but was able to close it out.

The offense was held scoreless for the first three innings, but broke out in the top of the fourth inning with three runs. SS Amed Rosario singled and 2B Jeff McNeil doubled and then 1B Wilmer Flores drove in Rosario on an infield hit and LF Michael Conforto drove in McNeil on a fly out to left field. CF Austin Jackson later drove in Flores on an RBI single. In the top of the fifth inning, catcher Kevin Plawecki doubled and RF Brandon Nimmo singled. Plawecki scored on a RBI single from Rosario and Nimmo came around to score on a RBI single by Flores. In the top of the seventh inning, Rosario and McNeil singled to start the inning and then Conforto drove home Rosario and McNeil scored on a wild pitch.

RHP Zack Wheeler had another fine outing and got off to a dominating start retiring the first 11 hitters he faced before allowing a single to 3B Justin Turner and a two-run homer to 1B Max Muncy. Wheeler settled down after that and cruised through the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. He gave up a solo homer to 1B Cody Bellinger in the bottom of the seventh. His final line was 7 innings, 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. He picked up his 10th win. Wheeler has been outstanding in the second half and has looked like an ace. He has come a long way after he started the season in Triple-A. RHP Seth Lugo came in next and closed it out with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings.

Mets vs. Giants Game 134 Recap

RHP Zack Wheeler

Tonight, the New York Mets lost to the San Francisco Giants 7-0 and dropped their record to 59-75. RHP Zack Wheeler had another terrific start allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Wheeler gave up no walks and lowered his ERA to 3.37 and had his first no-walk start since May 22th. The only run he was gave up was a sacrifice fly by LF Chris Shaw in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Robert Gsellman came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a lead-off homer to rookie catcher Aramis Garcia and then allowed a double to LF Gregor Blanco before being taken out. LHP Daniel Zamora followed and struck out his first two batters, walked 3B Evan Longaria intentionally and then gave up a two-run triple to 1B Brandon Belt. RHP Drew Smith appeared next and gave up RBI singles to RF Austin Slater, CF Gorkys Hernandez, and Aramis Garcia.

The offense struggled against Giants starter LHP Andrew Suarez and had  three hits.They allowed Suarez to retire 17 hitters in a row at one point. They went 0-6 with runners in scoring position in their fourth shutout in last seven games.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Giants at 4:05 P.M.
