The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1 tonight to snap their two-game losing streak and improve their record to 20-26. RHP Jacob deGrom got the start tonight after having it pushed back a day due to the threat of rain last night. deGrom had a dominant performance and allowed one run on six hits in 8 1/3 innings. He gave up one walk and had ten strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win of the season. RHP Fernando Salas came in to get the last two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense had one of the best performances of the season with eight runs and 12 hits. 2B Neil Walker had a big night with two homers and four RBI's. Walker hit a two-run homer in the top of the second inning and hit another homer in the top of the fifth. This was the first time Walker has homered at PNC Park since being traded from the Pirates. He added an RBI single in the top of the sixth. 1B Lucas Duda hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth inning. CF Curtis Granderson hit a RBI single in the top of the second inning.
