Mets Sign Reliever Neil Ramirez To Major League Deal

The New York Mets announced earlier today that they signed reliever RHP Neil Ramirez to a major league deal. Ramirez had a 8.71 ERA in nine games for the San Francisco Giants this year. He was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in May and was designated for assignment on Tuesday, but chose to go to free agency after he rejected being sent down. Ramirez's best season was in 2014 after he had a 1.44 ERA in 50 games for the Chicago Cubs. He had has 110 strikeouts in 92 career innings and has held right-handed hitters to a career .218 average. In order to make room for Ramirez on the roster, the Mets moved reliever RHP Jeurys Familia to the 60-day disabled list.
