Last night, the New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 to take two out of three games in the series and improve their record to 21-27. RHP Matt Harvey had his best outing of the season and showed signs that he is on the way back and had much better command of his fastball and secondary pitches. Harvey allowed one run on six hits in six innings. He gave up two walks and had four strikeouts. Harvey picked up his fourth win of the season. RHP Paul Sewald came in next and allowed one run on three hits in two innings with threes strikeouts. RHP Neil Ramirez closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The Mets offense had a balanced approach, with eight out of the nine hitters getting on base, which include Matt Harvey. SS Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run double in the top of the fourth. 3B Jose Reyes hit a RBI single in the top of the fifth. Reyes finished the game 1 for 5 with an RBI single, run scored and a stolen base. RF Jay Bruce hit a two-run double in the top of the fifth and reached base three times in the game. LF Curtis Granderson hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth to go along with three hits. 1B Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh and has now homered in back-to back games.
