Mets Beat White Sox 5-3 Powered By Alonso And Winker

The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3 tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field for their third consecutive win and improved their record to 72-64.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 3B Mark Vientos singled with two outs and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer for his 30th homer of the season.

Alonso joined Mike Piazza as the only other Mets in franchise history to have four seasons of 30 or more homers.

LF Jesse Winker came up next and delivered a solo homer.

After a scoreless top of the second, SS Francisco Lindor singled to lead the top of the third and CF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk.

Three batters later, Winker came through with a RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, Alonso and Winker singled to begin the inning and two batters, RF Starling Marte drove in a much needed insurance run with a RBI single.

LHP Jose Quintana had to work out of several jams due to all of the traffic on the basepaths, but was able to buckle down and limit the damage.

Quintana allowed two runs on six hits in five innings.

He gave up three walks with six strikeouts.

Quintana picked up his seventh win of the season.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Jose Butto came on in the bottom of the ninth and did not have his best stuff allowing one run on three hits, but he was able to get the last three outs and pick up his third save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, September 1 at the White Sox at 2:10 p.m.

Mets Beat White Sox 5-1 With Solid Start From Megill

The New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1 tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 71-64.

After a scoreless top of the first, RF Jesse Winker singled to lead off the top of the second and D.H. J.D. Martinez followed with a single.

2B Jeff McNeil then walked to load the bases and two batters later, CF Harrison Bader grounded into a fielder's choice which brought home a run.

In the top of the third, 1B Pete Alonso walked with two outs and then Winker followed with a RBI double.

Martinez then hit a two-run double.

The Met offense did not do much for the next five innings, but then in the top of the ninth, SS Francisco Lindor doubled with one out and LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single.

3B Mark Vientos then drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

RHP Tylor Megill made his return to the rotation after RHP Paul Blackburn went on the IL and got off to a rocky start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a RBI double to LF Andrew Benintendi.

Megill was able to settle down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

He was able to pick up the first out in the bottom of the sixth and was taken out.

His final line was 5.1 innings, five hits, one run, one walk and nine strikeouts.

Megill had good life on his fastball and sharp command of his slider and curveball.

He picked up his third win and lowered his ERA to 4.82.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed and picked up the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth for his third consecutive appearance and closed it out with a scoreless inning.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, August 31 at the White Sox at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Beat Diamondbacks 3-2 Behind Peterson and Strong Bullpen

The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 this afternoon at Chase Field to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 70-64.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer in the top of the second.

The offense did not do much in the next three innings until the top of the sixth after SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer.

In the top of the ninth, RF Jesse Winker doubled with one out and was then taken out for pinch runner Tyrone Taylor.

Two batters later, 3B Jose Iglesias delivered with the game-winning single.

LHP David Peterson started out well with two scoreless and then gave up a two-run homer to DH Randall Grichuk in the bottom of the third.

Peterson was able to settle down after that at one point retiring nine hitters in a row and then ran into a jam in the bottom of the seventh.

He was able to get 2B Kevin Newman to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was seven innings, seven hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

Peterson lowered his ERA to 2.83.

RHP Jose Butto followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth and picked up his sixth win.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and bounced back from his blown save last night with a 1-2-3 inning and two strikeouts to pick up his 15th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 30 at the Chicago White Sox at 8:10 p.m.

The New York Mets lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-5 tonight at Chase Field and dropped their record to 69-64.

RHP Luis Severino started out well with a scoreless bottom of the first, but then gave up a RBI single to former Met 2B Luis Guillorme in the bottom of the second.

Severino's struggles continued gave up a two-run homer to DH Joc Pederson in the bottom of the third and a solo homer to RF Corbin Carroll in the bottom of the fourth and was taken out with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

His final line was 4.2 innings, eight hits, four runs, one walk and nine strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and picked up two outs.

LHP Danny Young followed and also picked up two outs.

RHP Reed Garrett came on and got the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton appeared next and picked up the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth and was taken out with two outs and a man on first in the inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on and had a complete meltdown walking pinch-hitter Pavin Smith and SS Gelardo Perdamo and then allowing the game-winning grand slam to Carrol on a hanging slider.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first four innings against LHP Eduardo Rodriguez, but then came alive in the top of the fifth.

LF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and two batters later, DH J.D. Martinez drove in Nimmo with a RBI double.

Two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez drove in Martinez with a RBI single and CF Harrison Bader followed with a two-run homer.

In the top of the sixth, RF Starling Marte led off with a bunt single and then stole second.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Marte with a sacrifice fly.

The New York Mets beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-3 tonight at Chase Field and improved their record to 69-63.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a homer in the top of the second and two batters later, D.H. J.D. Martinez walked.

CF Tyrone Taylor then grounded into a fielder's choice and 2B Kevin Newman made an error which allowed Martinez to reach third.

2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI ground-out.

After scoreless innings in the top of the third and fourth, the Met broke the game open in the top of the fifth.

McNeil led off with a double and catcher Francisco Alvarez followed with a RBI single.

SS Francisco Lindor then singled and 3B Mark Vientos followed by driving in Alvarez with a RBI single.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a single to load the bases and two batters later, RF Jesse Winker drove in Lindor with a sacrifice fly.

Martinez then reached on an infield hit to load the bases and Taylor followed with a hit by pitch to bring in a run.

McNeil followed with a based loaded walk and then Martinez scored on an error by SS Geraldo Perdamo.

LHP Sean Manaea was spectacular through the first six innings with no runs and 11 strikeouts, but then ran out of gas in the bottom of the seventh.

Manaea gave up a solo homer to LF Lourdes Guerriel Jr and then later in the inning a two-run homer to RF Corbin Carroll and was taken out with two outs in the inning.

His final line was 6.2 innings, four hits, three runs, 0 walks and 11 strikeouts.

He picked up his 10th win.

RHP Reed Garrett followed and got the last out in the bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and picked up the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth and LHP Danny Young had to come in to get the last out in the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.

Mets Lose To Padres 3-2 After Bullpen Blows Late Lead

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 3-2 this afternoon at Petco Park to split their four-game series and dropped their record to 68-63.

LHP Jose Quintana had his best start in a month with 6.1 scoreless innings allowing four hits and two walks.

Quintana had no strikeouts, but was able to use his curveball efficiently which helped him pick up 12 ground-ball outs.

He lowered his ERA to 4.36.

RHP Jose Butto came in next and was able to get the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but then struggled in the bottom of the eighth.

Butto gave up a one-out walk to SS Mason McCoy and then gave up a two-run homer to LF Jurickson Profar on a hanging change-up.

Butto was taken out later in the inning with two outs.

RHP Paul Maton had to come in to get the last out in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a walk-off homer to CF Jackson Merrill.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings against LHP Martin Perez until the top of the fourth after D.H. J.D. Martinez hit a solo homer.

In the top of the seventh, 3B Mark Vientos continued his torrid stretch with a solo homer for his 21st homer of the season.

Outside of those two solo homers, the Met offense struggled all game with runners on base and were unable to get timely hits.

They went 0-3 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return back to action on Tuesday, August 27 at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m.

 

Mets RHP Paul Blackburn Goes on IL With Right Hand Contusion

New York Mets RHP Paul Blackburn has been placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 24th with a right-hand contusion.

Blackburn was hit on the hand with a line drive during his start on Friday night and left the game in the third inning.

RHP Huascar Brazoban was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse as corresponding roster move,

RHP Tylor Megill will come up from Syracuse to replace Blackburn's spot in rotation later this week.

The New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 7-1 tonight at Petco Park and improved their record to 68-62.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after 3B Mark Vientos walked and then LF Brandon Nimmo walked.

1B Pete Alonso followed with a RBI double.

In the top of the fourth with two outs, RF Starling Marte singled and then catcher Francisco Alvarez reached on an error by third baseman Manny Machado.

2B Jeff McNeil followed by reaching on a hit by pitch and then SS Francisco Lindor came up and broke the game open with a grand slam.

In the top of the seventh, Lindor led off with a homer for his second homer of the game.

In the top of the eighth, pinch-hitter Harrison Bader hit a solo homer.

LHP David Peterson had another outstanding start allowing one run on five hits in 7.1 innings.

He gave up two walks with two strikeouts.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 2.85.

RHP Dedniel Nunez followed and made his first appearance since returning off the IL and had a dominant performance.

Nunez picked up the last five outs of the game with three strikeouts and one hit with no walks.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 25 at the Padres at 4:10 p.m.

The New York Mets lost to the San Diego Padres 7-0 tonight at Petco Park to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 67-62.

RHP Paul Blackburn got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a lead-off homer to DH Luis Arraaez.

In the bottom of the second, Blackburn allowed a two-run homer to catcher Kyle Higashioka.

Later in the inning, Blackburn gave up a RBI single to 1B Jake Croneworth.

Blackburn had to come in the bottom of the third after his right arm was struck by a line drive.

Blackburn's final line was 2.1 innings, 10 hits, five runs, 0 walks and 1 strikeout.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and gave up an RBI double to Higashioka.

Stanek gave up another run in the third on a RBI single by Arraez.

LHP Danny Young followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh and then gave up a RBI single to 3B Manny Machado in the bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was dominated by RHP Joe Musgrove who was perfect going into the fifth inning.

They managed two hits all game and were 0-3 with runners in scoring position.

Mets Beat Orioles 4-3 On Walk-Off Homer from Jesse Winker

The New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 at Citi Field this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 66-61.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until SS Francisco Lindor hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third.

The offense did not score in the next three innings, but in the bottom of the fifth, CF Harrison Bader led off with a hit by pitch and then two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos singled to advance Bader to third.

D.H. J.D. Martinez then grounded to SS Jackson Holliday, but Holliday bobbled a possible double play which allowed Bader to score.

In the bottom of the seventh, Vientos continued his torrid hitting with a solo homer for his 20th homer of the season.

In the bottom of the ninth, pinch-hitter Jesse Winker led off and hit a walk-off homer for his first homer as a Met.

LHP Sean Manaea started out strong with 5.2 perfect innings, but then ran into trouble in the top of the sixth with two outs after he hit Holliday and then gave up a two-run homer to RF Austin Slater.

Manaea was able to recover with a scoreless top of the seventh and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was seven innings, three hits, three runs, 0 walks and nine strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto came on in the top of the eighth and had an off day with his command walking two hitters and then later in the inning, allowing a game-tying sacrifice fly to catcher Adley Rutschman, but was able to keep the game tied.

RHP Edwin Diaz followed and had a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts to pick up his fifth win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, August 22 at the San Diego Padres at 9:40 p.m.

Mets Lose To Orioles 9-5 After Quintana Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Baltimore Orioles 9-5 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 65-61.

LHP Jose Quintana got off to a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a two-out walk to SS Gunnar Henderson and then allowed a two-run homer to the following hitter RF Anthony Santander.

In the top of the second, Quintana allowed a lead-off triple to LF Colton Cowser and later in the inning, a sacrifice fly to former Met catcher James McCann.

Quintana had a scoreless top of the third, but then it all fell apart in the top of the fourth.

He allowed a lead-off double and then an infield hit which scored a run.

Quintana later allowed a towering two-run homer to McCann.

Quintana allowed another run in the top of the fifth on a RBI double by DH Eloy Jimenez and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, eight hits, seven runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless top of the sixth.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Huascar Brazoban threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

LHP Danny Young gave up two runs in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by Henderson and then an unearned run after LF Brandon Nimmo made a throwing error to allow run to score.

3B Mark Vientos drove in the first Met run of the game in the bottom of the third with a RBI double.

The Met offense did not do much for the next four innings, but then came alive in the bottom of the eighth.

SS Francisco Lindor hit a one-out double and then Vientos reached on an error by Henderson.

Nimmo followed with a RBI double and D.H. J.D. Martinez then hit a three-run homer, but the offense was not able to get any closer after that.

Mets Beat Orioles 4-3 on Walk-Off Homer By Francisco Alvarez

The New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 65-50.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 3B Mark Vientos singled with one out and then D.H. J.D. Martinez followed with a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a double and then D.H. Starling Marte bunted to move Alonso over to third base.

Two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez walked and then LF Tyrone Taylor drove in Alonso with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much after that until the bottom of the ninth after catcher Francisco Alvarez came up with one out and delivered a towering walk-off homer to left-center field on a 3-0 count. 

LHP David Peterson cruised through the first four innings and then ran into trouble in the top of the fifth.

Peterson gave up a one-out double to 3B Ramon Urias and then allowed Urias to advance to third base on a poor throw due to a pick-off attempt at second base.

Peterson then gave up a RBI ground-out to 2B Jackson Holliday.

Peterson had a scoreless top of the sixth and gave up a lead-off double to 1B Ryan Mountcastle and then retired the two hitters on a ground-out and strike-out.

Peterson then balked in a run which allowed Mountcastle to score and gave up the game-tying homer to Urias on a hanging slider.

Peterson was taken out after the inning and his final line was seven innings, six hits, three runs (two earned runs), one walk and eight strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto followed in the top of the eighth and continued his dominance in the bullpen with another scoreless inning.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning with a strikeout and picked up his fourth win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 20 at home against the Orioles at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Marlins 3-2 As Bullpen Blows Late Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins 3-2 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 64-60.

RHP Paul Blackburn had a solid outing allowing one run on four hits in six innings.

He gave up one walk with four strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next and had another difficult outing allowing two walks and then threw a wild pitch which allowed tying run to score.

Brazoban then gave up another single and was taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett followed and was able to get out of the inning after LF Brandon Nimmo made a sliding catch.

Garrett stayed in for the top of the eighth and had a difficult outing as well giving three hits and a walk and was then taken out.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the top of the eighth and gave up the game-winning RBI single to LF Derek Hill.

Maton stayed in for the top of the ninth and threw a scoreless inning.

In the bottom of the first 3B Mark Vientos singled and LF Brandon Nimmo walked with one out.

1B Pete Alonso came up next and flew out to centerfield and then Vientos was thrown out trying to score from second.

In the bottom of the fifth, DH Jesse Winker led off with a single and 2B Jose Iglesias followed with a walk.

Three batters later, SS Francisco Lindor came through with game-tying RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Nimmo led off with a homer.  Nimmo left the game after his at-bat in the bottom of the seventh due to his shoulder discomfort after fouling off a pitch

In the bottom of the ninth, Iglesias led off with an infield single and then CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a single.

Pinch-hitter Jeff McNeil came up next and struck out after two failed bunt attempts.

Lindor followed by flying out to centerfield and then Vientos struck out to end the game.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base going 1-9 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, August 19 at home against the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Shutout Marlins 4-0 After Severino Throws First Complete Game Shutout Since 2018

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-0 this afternoon at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 64-59.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a homer.

In the bottom of the second, 1B Pete Alonso hit a lead-off homer of his own.

In the bottom of the fourth, LF Brandon Nimmo tripled with one out and then D.H. J.D. Davis followed with a walk.

Two batters later, RF Jesse Winker singled and then Nimmo scored on an error.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lindor walked with two outs and then 3B Mark Vientos continued his torrid stretch at the plate with a RBI double.

RHP Luis Severino had a spectacular outing in his best start of the year with a complete game shutout.

Severino allowed four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.

He was in complete command of all his pitches especially his fastball, slider and change-up.

Severino gave the bullpen a much needed rest and attacked the zone from the beginning of the game and was a lot of fun to watch.

It was his first complete-game shutout since 2018 and was the first Met to throw a complete-game shutout since Jacob deGrom in 2021.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 3.91.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 18 at home against the Marlins at noon.

Mets Beat Marlins 7-3 Behind Nimmo and Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 7-3 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 63-59.

In the bottom of first, LF Brandon Nimmo reached on an error by RHP Roddery Munoz and then DH J.D. Martinez followed with a RBI single.

After scoreless innings in the bottom of the second and third, the Met offense erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez walked with one out and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a two-run homer.

CF Harrison Bader then walked and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a RBI triple.

3B Mark Vientos was then hit by a pitch and then Nimmo came up next and broke the game open with a three-run homer.

LHP Sean Manaea started out well with three scoreless innings, and then gave up two runs in the top of the fourth on a RBI double by CF Derek Hill and RBI ground-out by 3B Emmanuel Rivera.

Manaea allowed another run in the top of the fifth on a solo homer by 1B Jake Burger and then finished up strong with two more scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

His final line was seven innings, five hits, three runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

He picked up his ninth win.

RHP Jose Butto continued his dominance in the bullpen by closing it out with two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, August 16 at home against the Marlins at 4:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Athletics 7-6 To Drop Series After Quintana And Bullpen Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics 7-6 at Citi Field to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 62-59.

LHP Jose Quintana started out well with three scoreless innings working out of based loaded jams in the top of the first and third, but then it all came apart in the top of the fourth.

Quintana gave up a single and two walks to load the bases and then gave up a grand slam to CF JJ Bleday.

Quintana was taken out after the inning and his final line was four innings, seven hits, four runs, four walks and one strikeout.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came in next in the top of the fifth and allowed a run on a wild pitch. 

RHP Reed Garrett followed in the top of the sixth and gave up two more runs on a RBI ground-out by DH Tyler Nevin and a RBI single by 1B Seth Brown.

RHP Phil Maton came in next and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Ryne Stanek threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz threw a scoreless top of the ninth.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso scored on a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second.

In the bottom of the third, 3B Mark Vientos hit a two-run homer.

Later in the inning, catcher Luis Torrens hit a two-run single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Vientos came through once again with a solo homer.

The Met offense was not able to any generate any more runs after that and struggled with men.

They went 2-11 with runners in scoring position leaving 10 runners on base.

Mets Beat Athletics 9-1 Powered By Alonso and Lindor

The New York Mets beat the Oakland Athletics 9-1 tonight at Citi Field to snap their four-game losing streak and improved their record to 62-58.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, LF Jesse Winker led off  the bottom of the second with a single and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a single.

Two batters later, 3B Mark Vientos drove in Winker with a RBI double.

In the following inning, SS Francisco Lindor led off with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a solo homer of his own.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the next two innings, but then erupted for six runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Vientos led off with a walk and then RF Ben Gamel followed with a walk.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez then walked to load the bases and Lindor followed by driving in his second run of the game with a RBI single.

Gamel came around to score on a wild pitch and Lindor and Alvarez advanced to second and third.

CF Brandon Nimmo then drove in Alvarez with a sacrifice fly and DH J.D, Martinez followed with a RBI double.

Pinch-hitter Harrison Bader then reached on an infield hit and Alonso followed by breaking the game open with a two-run double.

LHP David Peterson had another excellent outing allowing one unearned run on three hits in 6.1 innings.

He gave up four walks with four strikeouts. 

He picked up his sixth win and lowered his ERA to 3.04.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed and picked up the last two outs in the top of the seventh.

LHP Danny Young threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

Mets Lose To Athletics 9-4 After Blackburn Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics 9-4 tonight at Citi Field for their consecutive loss and dropped their record to 61-58.

RHP Paul Blackburn got off to tough start in the top of the first after he gave up a lead-off walk and then a single and then two batters later, a hit by pitch to load the bases.

Blackburn then gave up a three-run double to the following hitter 1B Seth Brown.

Blackburn had a scoreless top of the second, but then it all unraveled for him in the top of the third.

Blackburn gave up a lead-off single to DH Brent Rooker and then walked the following hitter CF JJ Bleday.

Blackburn was then let down by his defense after 3B Jose Iglesias made an error which allowed a run to score.

Blackburn then gave up a three-run homer to the next hitter catcher Shea Langeliers.

Blackburn had a scoreless top of the fourth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was four innings, six hits, seven runs (six earned runs), two walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto had a scoreless top of the fifth, but then gave up two runs in the top of the sixth on an infield hit by LF Miguel Andujar and a RBI double by Langeliers.

RHP Ryne Stanek came in next and had a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, D.H. J.D. Martinez was hit by a pitch with one out and 2B Jeff McNeil walked and Iglesias hit a RBI single.

LF Brandon Nimmo followed with a walk and then LF Jesse Winker drove in Lindor with a RBI double.

1B Pete Alonso then hit a two-run single and 3B Mark Vientos walked.

However after that, McNeil struck out, Iglesias fouled out to first and then catcher Francisco Alvarez struck out to end the threat.

The Met offense were not able to generate any more runs after that and struggled all night with men on base.

They went 4-17 with runners in scoring position leaving 11 runners on base.

Mets Swept By Mariners 12-1 As Offense Continues to Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 12-1 tonight at T-Mobile Park and were swept in their three-game series and dropped their record to 61-57.

RHP Luis Severino had a scoreless bottom of the first and then gave up a solo homer to 2B Jorge Polanco.

Severino then had scoreless innings in the bottom of the third and fourth, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth.

Severino gave up a lead-off double to RF Dominic Canzone and after retiring the next two hitters, gave up a infield hit to LF Randy Arozarena which brought home a run.

Severino then gave up a two-run home to the following hitter catcher Cal Raleigh and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, six hits, four runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Ryne Stanek came on in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a lead-off double to Polanco and then walked 1B Luke Raley and 3B Josh Rojas.

Two batters later, Stanek gave up an RBI single to SS Leo Rivas and was then taken out.

RHP Adam Ottavino came on and allowed an infield hit to CF Victor Robles which brought home a run and then two batters later, a three-run homer to Raleigh.

LHP Danny Young followed in the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with two walks and a single and then walked Robles which brought home a run.

Young then hit Arozarena with a pitch which brought home a run.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense had another rough performance outside of a solo homer by 2B Jeff McNeil in the top of the sixth.

They went 0-8 with runners in scoring position leaving nine runners on base.

The Mets are off tomorrow and return to action back at home on Tuesday, August 13 against the Oakland Athletics at 7:10 p.m.

Mets Shutout By Mariners For Second Consecutive Day in 4-0 Loss

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 4-0 tonight at T-Mobile Park for their second consecutive loss and dropped their record to 61-56.

LHP Sean Manaea was unable to follow up the dominant performances in his last starts after he gave up a lead-off double to CF Victor Robles who then stole third and a RBI double to the following hitter to LF Randy Arozarena.

Two batters later, Manaea gave up another RBI double to 1B Justin Turner and two batters later, a RBI single to RF Mitch Haniger.

Manaea was able to go only two more innings after that and was taken out after the bottom of the third due to a high pitch count.

His final line was three innings, four hits, three runs, walks and three strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth.

RHP Reed Garrett made his return in the bottom of the inning being activated off the IL and had a dominant inning striking out the side.

RHP Phil Maton came on in the bottom of the seventh and gave up a RBI single to Turner.

LHP Danny Young threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was shutdown once again this time by RHP Logan Gilbert.

They managed just four hits and left four runners on base.

The New York Mets lost to the Seattle Mariners 6-0 tonight at T-Mobile Park and dropped their record to 61-55.

LHP Jose Quintana had a scoreless bottom of the first, but then gave up a two-run homer to 2B Ryan Bliss in the bottom of the second.

Quintana was able to settle down after that retiring the next 14 hitters he faced and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh.

He allowed the first two base-runners he faced to reach and after getting the next two outs, gave up a two-run single to SS Leo Rivas and was then taken out.

His final line was 6.2 innings, four hits, five runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.

RHP Adam Ottavino came in next and after walking the next two hitters, gave up a two-run single to catcher Cal Raleigh.

LHP Alex Young threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was shut down by RHP Bryce Miller and were unable to deliver any timely hits.

They had their best chance to score in the top of the seventh after DH J.D. Martinez walked and 2B Jeff McNeil singled to start the inning, but then 3B Mark Vientos grounded into a double play and catcher Francisco Alvarez flew out.

The offense went 0-8 with RISP leaving eight runners on base.

The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 9-1 at Coors Field this afternoon to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 61-54.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a double and then 2B Jose Iglesias followed with a RBI double.

D.H. J.D. Martinez followed with a RBI double of his own and then 1B Pete Alonso capped off the scoring in the inning with a two-run homer.

In the top of the fourth, Alonso led off with a solo homer for his second homer of the day.

In the top of the fifth, Alonso singled with two outs and then 3B Mark Vientos broke the game open with a two-run homer.

In the top of the ninth, CF Harrison Bader led off with a hit by pitch and then RF Tyrone Taylor followed with a double.

Lindor then drove in Bader with a RBI single and Iglesias followed by driving in Taylor with a sacrifice fly.

The New York Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 tonight at Coors Field and improved their record to 60-54.

The Met offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first after SS Francisco Lindor led off with a single and then stole second.

Three batters later, 1B Pete Alonso drove in Lindor with a RBI single.

In the top of the second, 3B Jose Iglesias led off with a single and two batters later, RF Ben Gamel singled.

CF Tyrone Taylor followed with a RBI single.

The offense did not do much for the next six innings, but then came alive in the top of the ninth.

Pinch-hitter Francisco Alvarez tripled with one out and then Gamel and Taylor followed with walks to load the bases.

Lindor came up and delivered the game-winning two-run single.

Two batters later, D.H. Jesse Winker drove in a much needed insurance run with a RBI single.

RHP Paul Blackburn gave up a solo homer to SS Ezquiel Tovar in the bottom of the first and an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, but did not allow any more runs after that.

His final line was six innings, five hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts.

RHP Jose Butto followed and continued his dominance in the bullpen with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

Butto allowed one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.

He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 2.30.

RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth and gave up a lead-off triple to 1B Michael Toglia and then a RBI ground-out. but came back to strike out the last two hitters he faced to pick up his 14th save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, August 8 at the Rockies at 3:10 p.m.

Mets Lose To Rockies 6-3 After Severino and Offense Struggle

The New York Mets lost to the Colorado Rockies 6-3 tonight at Coors Field and dropped their record to 59-54.

RHP Luis Severino had a scoreless bottom of the first, but then gave up an unearned run in the bottom of the second after CF Harrison Bader overthrew SS Francisco Lindor and then Severino was not backing up, which caused the ball to head throw 3B Mark Vientos.

Vientos then tried the catch the ball, but it slipped out of his hand and fell into a hole in the dugout to allow a run to score.

Severino was let down by his defense once again in the bottom of the fourth after RF Tyrone Taylor bobbled the exchange off a double by catcher Elias Diaz which allowed the tying run to score.

Severino then gave up a two-run homer to the following hitter RF Jake Cave.

In the bottom of the fifth, Severino's struggles continued after he gave up a RBI double to 2B Brendan Rodgers and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, eight hits, five runs, 0 walks and five strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban followed with two scoreless innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.

LHP Alex Young came on in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a RBI single to Diaz.

CF Harrison Bader drove in the Mets first two runs in the top of the second on a two-run single.

The only other run driven in was by LF Brandon Nimmo on a RBI single in the top of the fifth.

The Met offense wasted several opportunities and were unable to come up with timely hits to tie the game and take the lead.

They went 2-7 with runners in scoring position leaving six runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 7 at the Rockies at 8:40 p.m.

Mets Shutout Cardinals 6-0 With Dominating Outing From Manaea

The New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 this afternoon at Busch Stadium in a make-up game to snap their two-game losing streak and improved their record to 59-53.

After a scoreless top of the first, 1B Pete Alonso walked with one out in the top of the second and 3B Jose Iglesias followed with a walk.

Two batters later, Alonso scored on a wild pitch by Cardinals RHP Andre Pallante.

In the top of the fifth, 2B Jeff McNeil singled with one out and catcher Francisco Alvarez singled with one out.

CF Harrison Bader followed with a RBI single and then SS Francisco Lindor walked to load the bases.

RF Tyrone Taylor came up next and broke the game open with a bases clearing double.

In the top of the sixth, McNeil continued his torrid hitting in the second half with a solo homer.

LHP Sean Manaea had another outstanding start following his previous start with seven more scoreless innings.

Manaea allowed six hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts.

He had outstanding command of his fastball and slider or "sweeper" which helped him pick up key strikeouts.

He picked up his eighth win and lowered his ERA to 3.30.

RHP Ryan Stanek followed with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 6 at the Colorado Rockies at 8:40 p.m.

Mets Lose to Angels 3-2 Due to Offensive Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 this afternoon at Angel Stadium to lose two out of three games in the series and dropped their record to 58-53.

LHP Jose Quintana had a scoreless bottom of the first, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch and later in the inning, a sacrifice fly to catcher Matt Thaiss.

Quintana gave up another run on a sacrifice fly by CF Kevin Pillar in the bottom of the third, but settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth and fifth and was then taken out.

His final line was five innings, three hits, three runs, four walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Adam Ottavino followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

LHP Danny Young came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Phil Maton threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the second, catcher Francisco Alvarez reached on an error with two outs and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a walk.

CF Harrison Bader then hit a RBI single.

In the top of the fifth, McNeil led off with a double and two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor drove him in with a RBI singe.

The Met offense struggled all game with men on base wasting several scoring opportunities.

Their best shot to tie the game came in the top of the eighth with runners on first and third and one out, but then 3B Mark Vientos grounded into a double play.

The offense went 2-10 with runners in scoring position leaving seven runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Monday, August 5 in a makeup game at the St. Louis Cardinals at 5:15 p.m.

Mets Lose To Angels 5-4 After Bullpen Blows Lead

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles 5-4 tonight at Angels Stadium and dropped their record to 58-52.

LHP David Peterson got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a RBI single to CF Kevin Pillar, but then settled down after that.

Peterson was able to retire 10 out of the next hitters he faced, but then gave up another RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to SS Zach Neto.

Peterson threw a scoreless bottom of the sixth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was six innings, five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts.

RHP Huascar Brazoban came on in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the first two hitters he faced and then it all fell apart from there.

Brazoban gave up a single and walk and then a three-run homer to Neto and was taken out after that.

LHP Alex Young came on to get the last out in the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino and LHP Danny Young combined to pitch a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first six innings against RHP Jose Soriano, but then came alive in the top of the seventh.

2B Jeff McNeil led off with a walk and two batters later, SS Francisco Lindor singled.

LF Brandon Nimmo then walked to load the bases and DH J.D. Martinez came up next and delivered a grand slam for his 12th homer and second grand slam of the season.

In the top of the eighth, 3B Mark Vientos led off with a double, but was unable to move off second.

The offense struggled all night with men on base going 1-7 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, August 4 at the Angels at 4:07 p.m.

Mets Beat Angels 5-1 Powered By Alonso

The New York Mets beat the Los Angeles 5-1 tonight at Angel Stadium and improved their record to 58-51.

After a scoreless top of the first, 2B Jose Iglesias doubled to lead off the top of the second and two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez drove in Iglesias with a RBI single.

In the top of the third, LF Brandon Nimmo singled to lead off the inning and stole second.

Two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso delivered with a two-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, CF Harrison Bader led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed by reaching on a bunt single.

Two batters later, D.H. J.D. Martinez drove in Bader with a RBI single.

Later in the inning, Lindor scored on an error by SS Zach Neto.

RHP Paul Blackburn made his Met debut and was able to get out of a jam in the bottom of the first with a double play.

Blackburn was helped out his defense in the bottom of the second after Alvarez threw out a base-runner caught stealing second.

In the bottom of the fourth, Blackburn was able to escape out of another jam with runners on first and second with one out by picking up a strike-out and ground-out.

Blackburn settled down after that with scoreless innings in the bottom of the fifth and sixth and was then taken out.

His final line was six innings, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.

He picked up his fifth win and lowered his ERA to 4.11.

RHP Jose Butto followed and continued his dominant stretch in the bullpen with two perfect innings in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings.

Butto had three strikeouts with no hits and no walks and lowered his ERA to 2.38.

RHP Phil Maton closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Saturday, August 4 at the Angels at 9:35 p.m.
