RHP Jacob deGrom got off to a rocky start in the top of the first inning after he gave up a lead-off homer to 3B Luis Urias on a hanging slider. deGrom settled in after that and retired the next 12 hitters he faced due to his nasty slider. He didn't have great command of his fastball early on, but it got better as the game progressed. He ran into trouble once again in the top of the fifth after he gave up a solo homer to 2B Jace Peterson on another hanging slider. deGrom was able to recover and threw scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh and was then taken out. His final line was 7 innings, 4 hits, two runs, 0 walks and 10 strikeouts. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the eighth inning with a free runner on second and retired the first two hitters he faced, but then walked the next hitter and hit LF Christian Yelich which brought in a run. Diaz struck out SS Willy Adames to end the inning. The offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a double and then SS Franciso Lindor followed with a RBI single. The bats went quiet for the next six innings until the bottom of the seventh after pinch-hitter Jose Peraza hit a solo homer off of All-Star reliever LHP Josh Hader to tie the game. In the following inning, LF Dom Smith led off with a hit by pitch on the wrist and then James McCann drew a walk after a nine-pitch at-bat to load the bases. 2B Jeff McNeil then came up and delivered a two-run walk-off single, the first walk-off of his career. The Mets next game is tonight at home against the Brewers in the second game of a doubleheader at 7:10 p.m.
