LHP Rich Hill started out well with three scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the fourth after he gave up a lead-off single to SS Kyle Farmer and then walked RF Aristides Aquino and then gave up a three-run homer to 3B Eugenio Suarez. Hill was helped out by his defense later in the inning after LF Dom Smith made a diving catch which could have saved two runs. Hill gave up a solo homer to SS Kyle Farmer in the top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 5 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. RHP Yennsy Diaz followed with a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Jeurys Familia threw a scorleess top of the seventh inning. RHP Seth Lugo came on in the top of the eighth and got into immediate trouble after he gave up back-to-back singles, but then came back to strike out the next two hitters he faced. LHP Aaron Loup had to come in to get the last out of the inning. RHP Trevor May threw a scoreless top of the ninth inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the top of the tenth with the automatic runner on second and after walking the lead-off hitter, he came back to strike out Farmer and 1B Joey Votto and then retired RF Tyler Naquin on a fly-out to end the inning. The offense was held scoreless for the first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, RF Brandon Drury doubled and later 3B Jonathan Villar hit a RBI single. The bats went quiet for the next two innings until the bottom of the sixth after Villar walked to lead off the inning, 1B Pete Alonso singled, but then Villar was picked off second base with two on and no one out in a careless baserunning error. Newly acquired SS Javier Baez was able to pick up Villar later in the inning with a two-run homer. The offense didn't do much for the next two innings until the bottom of the ninth after 2B Jeff McNeil led off with a walk and then was taken out and Luis Guillorme came in as the pinch-runner. Guillorme advanced to second on a wild pitch and after Baez and catcher James McCann struck out, LF Dom Smith came through with an RBI single to tie the game. In the bottom of the tenth, Drury lead off the inning and delivered an RBI single to the opposite field to continue his torrid hitting since being recalled from Triple-A and is now 11-15. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Reds at 1:10 p.m.
