RHP Tijuan Walker started out well with two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the third inning after he gave up a solo homer to CF George Springer and then later in the inning a two-run homer to RF Tesocar Hernandez. Walker's struggles continued in the top of the fourth after he allowed Springer and 1B Vladimir Gurrerro Jr to get on and then gave up a three-run homer to 2B Marcus Semien and was taken out after the inning. His final line was 4 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. RHP Miguel Castro followed with a scoreless top of the fifth inning. RHP Yeensy Diaz then threw a scoreless top of the sixth inning. RHP Drew Smith came on in the top of the seventh inning and gave up a solo homer to SS Bo Bichette. Smith stayed in for the top of the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. LHP Anthony Banda came in for the top of the ninth inning and gave up three runs on an infield single by Bichette and a two-run homer by Tesocar Hernandez. The offense didn't do much for the first four innings until the bottom of the fifth inning after CF Brandon Nimmo, 1B Pete Alonso and LF Dom Smith all hit RBI singles which helped bring in three runs. The bats were not able to generate any more runs after that and wasted several scoring opportunities with runners in scoring position. They left nine men on base and were 5-11 with runners in scoring position. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon against the Blue Jays at 1:10 p.m.
