Mets Beat Pirates 13-4 Behind 10-Run Sixth Inning

Mets 1B Pete Alonso (Photo Credits to Charles Wenzelberg-NY Post) The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-4 tonight at Citi Field and improved their record to 46-38. The offesne was held scoreless for the first two innings until the bottom of the third after 3B Jonathan Villar led off the inning with a solo homer. Catcher Jamess McCann followed with a single and two batters later, CF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI double. The bats were quiet for the next couple of innings, but came alive in the bottom of the sixth. Nimmo led off with a single and SS Francisco Lindor followed with a walk. LF Dom Smith then hit a RBI single to bring in Nimmo and 1B Pete Alonso followed with a three-run homer. 2B Jeff McNeil reached on an infield single and after the following hitter RF Michael Conforto walked, two batters later McCann walked to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Jose Peraza came up and was hit by a pitch which brought in a run and Nimmo walked to bring in another run. Lindor then came up and broke the game open with a grand slam to cap off the scoring in the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning Villar hit another solo homer, his second of the night. RHP Tijuan Walker didn't have his best stuff, but allowed two runs on four hits in five innings. He gave up three walks with two strikeouts. LHP Aaron Loup followed with a scoreless top of the sixth inning. He picked up his third win. RHP Nick Tropeano gave up one run in two innings. RHP Yennsy Diaz gave up a run in the top of the ninth inning. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon as part of a day-night doublehheader beginning at 4:10 p.m.
