Mets Lose To Reds 4-3 And Are Unable To Get A Clutch Hit

Mets 1B Pete Alonso and 2B Jeff McNeil (Photo Credits to Katie Stratman-USA Today Sports) The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 tonight in Cincinnati and dropped their record to 49-43. RHP Robert Stock got the start and gave up a lead-off homer to 2B Jonathan India in the bottom of the first. Stock got hurt in the following inning hustling on a ground-ball and pulled his hamstring while running out the grounder and was taken out of the game. RHP Stephen Nogosek had to come in and got into trouble in the bottom of the third after he gave up back-to-back homers to 1B Joey Votto and RF Artides Aquino. Nogosek was able to settle down after that and struck out five in three innings. RHP Yennsy Diaz threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning. RHP Geoff Hartlieb followed and gave up a run in 1.1 innings. LHP Aaron Loup got the last two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning. 1B Pete Alonso got the offense on the board early with a solo homer in the top of the first inning. The bats went quiet for the next six innings until the top of the seventh after SS Jonathan Villar led off with a walk and later in the inning Alonso reached on an error by 1B Joey Votto which allowed Villar to come around and score fron second. In the top of the eighth inning, catcher James McCann singled and pinch-hitter Luis Guillorme followed with a RBI double. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Reds at 12:35 p.m.
