Mets Lose to Pirates 9-7 After Edwin Diaz and Seth Lugo blow lead

Puskar-AP) The New York Mets lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-7 tonight in Pittsburgh for their third consecutive loss and dropped their record to 47-42. RHP Tylor Megill had the best young start of his young career with six scoreless innings. Megill gave up six hits and no walks with two strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.63 RHP Trevor May followed with a scoreless bottom of the seventh. RHP Seth Lugo came on in the bottom of the eighth and had a difficult outing allowing a RBI double to 1B John Nogowski and then SS Kevin Newman grounded into a fiedler's choice which brought in another run. Lugo was not able to get out of the inning after he gave up a three-run homer to pinch-hitter Wilmer Difo. LHP Aaron Loup had to come in and retired 2B Adam Frazier on a ground-out to end the inning. RHP Edwin Diaz came in the bottom of the ninth inning and got into immediate trouble after he hit 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes to lead off the inning and then walked CF Bryan Reynolds. After getting an out, Diaz gave up a singke to Nogowski to load the bases. Diaz struck out RF Gregory Polanco for the second out, but then gave up a walk-off grand slam to catcher Jacob Stallings. 3B J.D. Davis led the offense with two homers and four runs batted in. Davis hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth and another two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch-hitter Travis Blakenhorn hit a RBI double in the top of the seventh. 2B Jeff McNeil hit a RBI single later in the inning. CF Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth. The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon at the Pirates at 1:05 p.m.
