Mets Beat Reds 15-11 in 11 Innings In A Wild Affair Behind Seven Home Runs

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 15-11 in Cincinnati for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 49-42.
The offense got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning after CF Brandon Nimmo led off with a walk and then 1B Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homer.
2B Jeff McNeil followed Alonso with a solo homer.
The bats went quiet for the next two innings until the top of the fourth after 3B J.D. Davis led off with a single and RF Michael Conforto followed with a two-run homer.
Catcher Tomas Nido then doubled and three batters later, Alonso drove in his third RBI of the night with a RBI single.
In the top of the fifth, LF Dom Smith led off with a solo homer to tie the game.
The offense didn't do much in the next two innings, but in the top of the eighth, Conforto led off with a single and then James McCann wo pitch hit for Nido delivered a two-run homer.
In the top of the tenth with OF Kevin Pillar as the automatic runner on second, Conforto grounded out to first which moved Pillar over to third and then McCann came through with a RBI single.
In the following inning, Nimmo led off with a single which moved 2B Jose Peraza to third as the automatic runner.
Alonso struck out, but then McNeil drove in Peraza with a RBI single.
Two batters later, Pillar delivered the blow with a three-run homer.
Conforto followed with a solo homer, his second of the night.
RHP Jared Eickoff got the start and was let down by his defense after SS Luis Guillorme and McNeil combined to make four errors in the first two innings.
The normally sure-handed Guillorme made three errors which led to three runs in the first run and another run in the second inning.
Eickoff deserved a lot better than his line showed.
His final line was 3.2 innings, 6 hits, 7 runs, 2 earned runs, 1 walk and three strikeouts.
RHP Yennsy Diaz came in next and threw 1.1 scoreless innings.
RHP Miguel Castro followd and got the last two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Castro stayed in for the bottom of the seventh and was charged with a run after he allowed pinch-hitter Tucker Barnhardt to reach on a fielder's choice.
RHP Seth Lugo came in and gave up a RBI double to RF Jesse Winkler.
Lugo stayed in for the bottom of the eighth and struck out three hitters in the inning.
RHP Edwin Diaz came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and walked SS Kyle Farmer to lead off the inning, but then struck out Barnhardt and got 2B Jonathan India to ground out. Diaz then faced Winkler and could have walked him with first base open, but decided to pitch to him.
Diaz's struggles continued after he gave up a RBI single to Winkler to tie the game and blow his third consecutive save.
LHP Anthony Banda came on in the bottom of the tenth after just being called up from Triple-A and threw a scoreless inning and was helped out on a double play by 3B Eugenio Suarez.
Banda stayed for the bottom of the eleventh and got a ground-out to start the inning, but then gave up singles to Barnhardt and India and was taken out.
RHP Trevor May had to come in and retired RF Nick Castellanos and struck out pinch-hitter Mike Freeman to end the game.
The Mets next game is at the Reds tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m
