Mets Rally In Ninth Inning To Beat Tigers 2-1 For First Win of Season

The New York Mets beat the Detroit Tigers 2-1 this afternoon at Citi Field in the second game of a doubleheader for their first win of the season and improved their record to 1-5.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first eight innings, but came alive in the bottom of the ninth,

1B Pete Alonso led off with a game-tying homer and then 3B Brett Baty followed with a walk.

RF Starling Marte then hit a sacrifice fly to move Baty to second.

LF Tyrone Taylor came up next and drove in Baty with a walk-off single.

RHP Jose Butto had a solid outing allowing one run on three hits in six innings.

Butto gave up three walks with six strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with three scoreless innings.

Garrett allowed two hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

He picked up his first win.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, April 5 at the Cincinnati Reds at 6:40 p.m.
