Mets Beat Royals 6-1 Behind Baty and Pitching

The New York Mets beat the Kansas City Royals 6-1 at Citi Field tonight for their second consecutive win and improved their record to 6-7.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until LF Brandon Nimmo hit a RBI double.

In the bottom of the fourth with two outs, 3B Brett Baty and Francisco Alvarez singled and then 2B Jeff McNeil and DH D.J. Stewart followed with RBI singles.

In the bottom of the fifth, Baty came through once again with a two-run double.

In the bottom of the eighth, 1B Pete Alonso capped off the scoring with a solo homer.

RHP Luis Severino allowed one run on one hit in five inning with four walks and four strikeouts.

Severino gave up a solo homer to catcher Salvador Perez in the top of the second, but didn't allow any runs after that.

Severino picked up his first win of the season.

LHP Jake Diekman followed by getting the first two outs in the top of the sixth.

RHP Reed Garrett followed with 1.1 scoreless innings.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Jorge Lopez closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, April 13 at home against the Royals at 1:40 p.m.
