Mets Rout Braves 16-4 To Take Series After Offense Breaks Out

The New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 16-4 this afternoon at SunTruist Park to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 5-7.

In the top of the first, RF Starling Marte walked with one out and two batters later, 1B Pete Alonso reached on an infield single.

3B Brett Baty followed with a RBI single.

LF Brandon Nimmo then hit a RBI double and later came around to score an error by SS Orlando Arcia.

In the top of the third, Alonso led off with a single and two batters later, catcher Francisco Alvarez hit a RBI double.

2B Jeff McNeil followed with a RBI double and DH D.J. Stewart came up next and hit a two-run homer.

In the top of the seventh, Marte led off with a single and stole second.

SS Francisco Lindor then reached on an error by 3B Austin Riley and Alonso walked.

Two batters later, Francisco Alvarez hit a RBI ground-out and 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a a two-run single.

In the top of the eighth, CF Harrison Bader led off with a single and then Nimmo followed with a RBI triple.

Nimmo then scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the ninth, Alvarez led off with a single and McNeil followed with a walk.

Two batter later, 3B Brett Baty singled which loaded the bases and then pinch-hitter Tyrone Taylor capped off the scoring with a grand slam.

LHP Jose Quintana cruised through the first four innings, but gave up three runs in the bottom of the fifth and was taken out with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

His final line was 5.1 innings, five hits, three runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

He picked up his first win.

RHP Drew Smith followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

RHP Tyler Jay came in next in his MLB debut and allowed one run on five hits in two innings with one strikeout.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, April 12 back at home against the Kansas City Royals at 7:10 p.m.
