Mets Beat Reds 3-1 To Take First Series of Year

The New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-1 this afternoon at Great American Ball Park to take two out of three games in the series and improved their record to 3-6.

In the top of the first, SS Francisco Lindor doubled and then catcher Francisco Alvarez singled and Lindor was able to score on an error.

In the top of the second, DH Startling Marte led off with a walk and then RF Tyrone Taylor and 2B Jeff McNeil followed with bunt singles.

Two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo was hit by a pitch which brought home a run.

In the top of the fourth, Lindor capped off his fine day at the plate with a solo homer.

LHP Sean Manaea had a solid outing allowing one run on three hits in five innings.

He gave up two walks with six strikeouts.

He picked up his first win of the season.

RHP Jorge Lopez followed with a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

LHP Brooks Raley then threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth.

RHP Edwin Diaz closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth and picked up his second save of the season.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, April 8 at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.
