Mets Place Francisco Alvarez on IL With Left Thumb Sprain

New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left thumb sprain.

Alvarez hurt himself in last night's game against the Dodgers after falling down running on the bases and his thumb went straight into the ground.

He had another injury with left thumb on April 17 against the Pirates while sliding into second base.

Catcher Tomas Nido was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Alvarez.
