The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 tonight at Citi Field for their second consecutive win and improved their record back to .500 at 8-8.
The Met offense was held scoreless for the first five innings, but came alive in the bottom of the sixth.
RF Starling Marte, SS Francisco Lindor and 3B Brett Baty all singled to load the bases and then catcher Francisco Alvarez walked to bring in a run.
2B Jeff McNeil came up and drove in a run on an error by RF Connor Joe.
The next hitter, pinch-hitter D.J. Stewart tied the game with a RBI double.
In the bottom of the eighth, McNeil reached first with one out after the ball got past catcher Henry Davis and then Stewart followed a walk.
McNeil and Stewart were then able to pull off a successful double steal and CF Harrison Bader came through with the go-ahead two-run double.
Later in the inning, LF Brandon Nimmo drove in Bader with a RBI ground-out.
RHP Adam Houser started out well with five scoreless innings, but gave up two runs in the top of the sixth and was then taken out.
His final line was 5.2 innings, two hits, two runs, five walks and five strikeouts.
RHP Drew Smith came in next and allowed another run in the inning.
LHP Brooks Raley threw a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the eighth and picked up his first win.
RHP Edwin Diaz closed out with a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his first save.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 16 at home against the Pirates at 7:10 p.m.
