Mets Lose to Royals 11-7 After Manaea Struggles

The New York Mets lost to the Kansas City Royals 11-7 this afternoon at Citi Field to snap their two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 6-8.

LHP Sean Manaea had a tough start in the top of the first after he gave up three straight singles including a RBI single by DH Nelson Velazquez.

Manaea's troubles continued in the top of the second after he gave up a bases loaded walk to 2B Nick Loftin and then a two-run single to 1B Salvador Perez.

Manaea had a scoreless top of the third, but gave up a RBI single to Loftin in the top of the fourth.

Later in the inning, Manaea gave up a two-run homer to Perez and a RBI single to catcher Freddy Femin and was taken out later in the inning.

Manaea's final line was 3.2 innings, nine hits, eight runs, (six earned runs), three walks and four strikeouts.

RHP Cole Sulser came in next and gave up a sacrifice fly to Loftin in the top of the fifth and a two-run homer to RF Hunter Renfroe in the top of the sixth,

RHP Javier Lopez followed and got the last two outs in the top of the sixth.

LHP Jake Diekman threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Tyler Jay threw two scoreless innings in the top of the eighth and ninth.

In the bottom of the first, 1B Pete Alonso drove in the first run of the game with a RBI single.

Later in the inning, 3B Brett Baty hit a RBI ground-out and DH D.J. Stewart hit a RBI double.

In the bottom of the third, Alonso tied the game with a solo homer.

In the bottom of the sixth, Alonso hit his second solo homer of the game.

In the bottom of the eighth, RF Starling Marte hit a solo homer.

Later in the eighth, pinch-hitter Tyrone Taylor hit a sacrifice fly.

The Mets offense struggled with men on base going 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five runners on base.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, April 14 at home against the Royals at 1:40 p.m.
