Mets Lose To Reds 9-6 After Bullpen and Defense Blow It In Eighth

The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds 9-6 this afternoon at Great American Ball Park and dropped their record to 2-6.

RHP Luis Severino had a solid outing allowing two runs on three hits in five innings.

LHP LHP Jake Diekman followed in the bottom of the sixth and gave up a RBI single to pinch-hitter Staurt Fairchild and then allowed LF Spencer Steer to steal home later in the inning.

RHP Yohan Ramirez had a scoreless bottom of the seventh, but it all imploded for him in the bottom of the eighth.

Ramirez gave up a lead-off walk to 3B Jeimer Candelario and then struck out RF Jake Fraley, but catcher Omar Narvaez dropped the third strike which allowed Candelario take third and Fraley went to first.

Ramirez's struggles in the inning continued after he gave up a RBI single to SS Ella De La Cruz and then gave up a three-run homer to Steer.

Ramirez gave up a sacrifice fly to 1B Christian Encarncion-Strand.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first three innings until catcher Omar Narvaez hit a two-run single in the top of the fourth.

DH Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run double later in the inning.

LF Tyrone Taylor hit a RBI double in the top of the fifth.

In the top of the ninth, 3B Brett Baty hit a RBI single.

The Mets offense struggled to capitalize with men on base going 4-12 with runners in scoring position leaving eight runners on base.

The Mets game is tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, April 7 at the Reds at 1:40 p.m.
