Mets Beat Pirates 3-1 On Clutch Hit By Wendle

The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 tonight at Citi Field for their third consecutive win and fourth consecutive series win to improve their record to over .500 at 9-8.  

It the first team the team has been over .500 since June 3 last season.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first six innings, but came alive in the bottom of the seventh.

SS Francisco Lindor walked and then 1B Pete Alonso singled.

3B Joey Wendle came up next after he came off the bench to replace Brett Baty who left the game with hamstring tightness to deliver a game-tying RBI single.

Later in the inning, reliever RHP Jose Hernandez committed a balk which allowed Alonso to score the go-ahead run.

2B Jeff McNeil then delivered a RBI double.

LHP Jose Quintana allowed one run on four hits in five innings.

He gave up three walks with four strikeouts.

RHP Reed Garrett followed and threw two scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and seventh.

He gave up one hit and one walk with six strikeouts.

He picked his second win.

RHP Jorge Lopez threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Drew Smith threw a scoreless top of the ninth and picked up his first save.

The Mets next game is tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 17 at home against the Pirates at 1:10 p.m.
