Mets Swept By Royals 9-2 After Carrasco Get Shelled

 The New York Mets lost to the Kansas City Royals 9-2 at Kaufman Stadium this afternoon to get swept in their three-game series and dropped their record to 50-58.

RHP Carlos Carrasco got off to a tough start in the bottom of the first after he gave up a one-out single to SS Bobby Witt Jr and two batters later, a RBI double to catcher Salvador Perez.

Carrasco had a scoreless bottom of the second, but in the bottom of the third, he gave up a lead-off single to LF Samad Taylor who then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error.

Carrasco then gave up a sacrifice fly to 3B Maikel Garcia and a solo homer to Witt Jr.

Carrasco had scoreless innings in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but gave up a three-run homer to CF Drew Waters in the bottom of the seventh and was then taken out.

Carrasco's final line was six innings, eight hits, six runs, one walk and 0 strikeouts.

RHP John Curtiss followed and threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

LHP Josh Walker came in next in the bottom of the eighth and gave up three runs on a RBI single by DH Dairon Waters, RBI ground-out by LF Sairon Taylor and a RBI single by Witt Jr. and was taken out with one out.

Infielder Danny Mendick had to come in to get the last two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first eight innings until the top of the ninth after SS Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer and managed only five hits all afternoon.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Friday, August 4 at the Baltimore Orioles at 7:05 p.m.
