Mets Beat Pirates 8-3 Behind Stewart and Alonso

 The New York Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3 this afternoon at Citi Field to take two out of three games and improved their record to 55-66.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, RF D.J. Stewart hit a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the second and then catcher Omar Navarez followed with a double.

CF Rafael Ortega walked and two batters later, LF Brandon Nimmo walked to load the bases.

SS Francisco Lindor came up next and delivered a two-run single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ortega doubled with one out and then two batters later, Nimmo hit a RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, 1B Pete Alonso led off with a walk and was then thrown out at second in a caught stealing.

Later in the inning, DH Daniel Vogelbach with two outs and then Stewart followed and capped out his stellar day at the plate with a  two-run homer, his second homer of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Alonso led off with a solo homer and then 2B Jeff McNeil followed with a walk.

Three batters later, Narvaez reached on an error and then Ortega hit a RBI single.

RHP Tylor Megill started out with two scoreless innings, but in the top of the third gave up a two-run homer to LF Bryan Reynolds.

Megill was able to settle down after that and threw scoreless innings in the top of the third, fourth and fifth and was taken out after the inning.

His final line was five innings, two runs, four walks and five strikeouts.

Megill had good command of his fastball, slider and curveball.

He picked up his seventh win.

RHP Phil Bickford came in next in the top of the sixth and gave up a RBI single to SS Alika Williams.

LHP Brooks Raley followed and threw a scoreless top of the seventh.

RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the eighth.

RHP Adam Ottavino closed it out with a scoreless top of the ninth.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Thursday, August 16 at the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:15 p.m.
