The New York Mets lost to the Chicago Cubs 3-2 tonight at Citi Field and dropped their record to 51-62.
RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with three scoreless innings, but in the top of the fourth gave up a solo homer to CF Cody Bellinger.
Carrasco gave up a RBI double to catcher Yan Gomes in the top of the fifth and was taken out after the inning.
His final line was five innings, three hits, two runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
RHP Phil Bickford came in next and threw a scoreless top of the sixth.
RHP Trevor Gott threw a scoreless top of the seventh.
RHP Drew Smith followed gave up a solo homer to RF Mike Taufman in the top of the eighth and was taken out after getting two outs in the inning.
LHP Josh Walker had to come in to get the last out in the eighth.
RHP Adam Ottavino threw a scoreless top of the ninth.
The Met offense got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first after 1B Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer, his fourth homer in his last 28 at-bats.
The bats did not do much after that wasting a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the eighth after 2B Jeff McNeil grounded out to end the inning with runners on first and third.
In the bottom of the ninth, SS Francisco Lindor singled to lead off the inning, but then Alonso flew out and DH Daniel Vogelbach grounded into a double play to end the game.
The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 9 at home against the Cubs at 7:10 p.m.
