Mets Lose to Cardinals 7-3 After Carrasco Struggles

 The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3 this afternoon at Busch Stadium to snap their five-game winning streak and dropped their record to 58-67.

RHP Carlos Carrasco started out well with two scoreless innings, but gave up a RBI single to 1B Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the third.

Carrasco had a scoreless bottom of the fourth, but gave up a two-run homer to Goldschmidt in the bottom of the fifth and was then taken out.

Carrasco's final line was 4.0 innings, nine hits, three runs, 0 walks and three strikeouts.

He was unable to get out of the fifth inning and wound up 75 pitches which taxed the bullpen once again.

RHP Drew Smith came in next and threw a scoreless bottom of the fifth.

LHP Adam Kolorek followed and got the first two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Sam Coonrod got the last out in the bottom of the sixth.

RHP Trevor Gott came on in the bottom of the seventh and had a difficult outing allowing four runs and was then taken out.

RHP Reed Garrett had to come in and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Met offense was held scoreless for the first two innings until 2B Jonathan Arauz hit a RBI single in the top of the third.

In the top of the fourth, 1B Pete Alonso hit a solo homer for his 39th homer of the year.

In the top of the eighth, pinch-hitter Francisco Alvarez hit a RBI single.

The Mets next game is tomorrow night, Monday, August 21 at the Atlanta Braves at 7:20 p.m.
